Hi everyone!

When I started about 5 weeks ago I weighed 207 Got down to 196 in 17 days and was only doing 30 mins of working out and 15 mins with weights. I quit smoking 8 days ago. So I am doing a hour and half of cardio and weights, only 3 pound weights, my dr told me to use so I wont look like a wo- man, lol have to keep busy so I wont smoke. Now for about 2 weeks havent lost a thing, yes lost some inches, but not a pound. Whats up with that. I also do fitday, calories are between 1000-1,200. And mostly salads. I havent drank soda in 3 weeks and drinking water, 1 cup of coffee and grapefruit juice (2 cups, takes my smoke cravings away). I measure all my food. I'm just getting pissy now, cause I'm stuck..Any ideas on what to do? thanks for any help.

Hi Tammy:

I don't really have any insight as to why you're aren't losing pounds, but if you're losing inches, that's a good thing.

Hi, Tammy! congrats on the no smoking, that is a bridge I will have to cross soon.

IMHO, your calories are really low. When we don't fuel our bodies, they cling to everything we give it. You may consider analyzing your caloric needs. I have some background in this if you would like some help, although I am not a dietician. Also, muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining muscle and losing fat will appear to be a stand-still for you at times. Losing inches is a really good sign that you are losing fat, not muscle and that is super! I could ramble on and on, just ask and I will happily keep talking.

You know Tammy - Michelle has made a good point, but I want to clarify it a bit. It seems easier to say 'muscle weighs more than fat' - but in fact they weigh the same (ie. a pound of fat = a pound of muscle as they = a pound of feathers)....HOWEVER muscle takes up LESS space than fat=> you losing inches. I would say you are right on track. Keep going the way you're going and if in about 2 weeks there's no change, then look at changing something.

Look into your calorie intake, like Michelle suggests.

Moderation IS Key!

Hey Tammy, these ladies are right, it's not just pounds that count, it's inches.

Tammy I agree with Ilovet2step...your calories are WAY too low-especially for your activity level.

Hey, good point! Muscle is smaller than fat. Glad you know what I meant ;-)
