I went to the dentist on friday, everything is great, my teeth are great, beautiful, good numbers on the gums. Great!

Except I clench my teeth, so now I had to ask my parents to pay a portion of a night guard for christmas, excellent, love those practical christmas gifts. 436 dollars and the insurance doesn't pay a red cent. JOKE!!!

Anyhow, one of my biggest vices is caffeine free diet pepsi, I don't drink regular soda very often, and I drink water all day long, I only sip diet pepsi at night or if I go out to a restaurant. Well she said that the phosphoric acid in it is really bad and although there is no sugar the phosphoric acid depletes the calcium and wrecks the enamel so she'd prefer if I switch to diet sprite, diet 7up or diet gingerale as they don't contain phosphoric acid.

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT MY CAFFEINE FREE DIET PEPSI!!!

I got my teeth whitened. One of the reasons was so I would stop drinking soda so that my teeth would stay white. While I haven't totally cut it out, I've cut back dramatically and will only drink it on the weekends. Now I'm trying to cut back from that, so I'll limit myself to parties.

You can do it!! It may mean weaning rather than cold turkey. We're here for you!

Well ladies, I'm not a pop drinker, but do understand caffeine addiction.

It's not even just that, she explained that it takes calcium out of your body as well which isn't good for women. It's only in colas though. YUCK!

Actually it's not the caffeine because I switched to caffeine free soda 3 years ago when I found a lump in my breast, they made me give up caffeine and the lump went away so now I don't drink caffeine soda, just caffeine free. So it's not giving that up, it's just the taste, it's basically a sugary treat at night while I'm watching tv that isn't BAD for me.

I really need to ask my dentist if he can tell how much soda I drink. Cuz I tend to drink it through a straw and I have NEVER had a dentist tell me to lay off the soda cuz of my teeth/enamel whatevers.

Bummer on the soda. It's not easy to give up, caffeinated or not.

Well it wasn't something she saw, my teeth are nice and white, we were just talking in general, I said I had a pet peeve about my teeth and how I like them to be white and asked her how much whitening was (WAY TOO EXPENSIVE) anyhow, she said it helps with tea and coffee stains and I said I didn't drink those but I did drink cola and that's how we got on the subject of cola, not really because she saw a problem with my teeth (the only real problem is grooves from me clenching while I sleep) it was just more of an FYI heres what cola does but 7up doesn't kind of thing...so for my own deal because I'm so anal about my teeth I am laying off it ya know.

I knew I had seen a similar conversation or news tip somewhere, and I found that it was a Real Age Tip of the Day a while back . . .

A Smile Fizzler

Fizzy diet sodas that are better for your waistline may still hurt your teeth.

The acid in fizzy drinks, even diet varieties, may contribute to enamel erosion that can weaken teeth, according to research. Enamel is the hard, outer layer that protects teeth. Rinse or chew sugar-free gum after you drink soda to neutralize acid and minimize damage to your pearly whites.

RealAge Benefit: Flossing and brushing your teeth daily can make your RealAge as much as 6.4 years younger.
