How do you keep the holidays special?
By spending as much time as I can with those I care about. Also, you know when you find that perfect gift for someone? Well seeing their reaction to it makes it all worth while!

What are your traditions?
Usually someone in our "family" (since most of us are away from our biological families down here we consider those really close friends as family) is the person 'holding' the party/dinner- but it's done potluck style....so there's LOTS of yummy choices. I beleive Bunny is doing T'Giving this year....and for Christmas I think it's looking like a beach dinner! (I've usually gone back to Ireland and missed these, so this will be a first for me!)

Moderation IS Key!

Well I'm alone (Lucky me) so I put up the tree after thanksgiving. That's my tradition.

Greek Easter (Pascha) has more special traditions thank Christmas. We color eggs red. Then each person goes to someone else, one person says "Christos Anesti" (Christ has risen)The other person says "Alithos Anesti" (Truly he has risen) and then they hit end to end of eggs. You continue along until the last person standing with at least one end of his egg not broken and it's traditional that this person will have good luck all year, we usually have everyone put money into a pot and they win the money too (that's our tradition thrown in). And yummy foods of course, spanokopita, lamb, baklava, DOlmades...gosh I love Greek Easter!

I'll add a christmas tradition. I am notorious for shopping whenever I see something I know someone I buy for would love, I hit a lot of sales during the year etc. Anyhow, as soon as I buy someone something I wrap it immediately and it goes in a box in my spare room, I'm already done christmas shopping and they are all wrapped. So when christmas finally arrives I've forgotten myself what was bought since some are bought in the spring or summer a lot of times, so not only is it a surprise for them it's a surprise for me too! I LOVE THAT!!!!

Steffy I agree with you, it was so nice reading thoes.

My traditions (since I posted the question) I put a small tree up in my room & decorate my dollhouse. I put the family tree up starting the weekend after Thanksgiving. I bake a ton of Christmas cookies - some to give away some to eat. CHristmas Eve I go to my Aunt's for the dinner of 7 fishes. I can never remember the signifance of 7 fish. Christmas Eve night I spend with my boyfriend and his 2 brothers. They are from Mexico and have diffrent tradiditions - church and a small dinner. But I am trying to Americanize them. So we have home made pizza with diffrent toppings, my cookies candy & I introduced them to Fondu. At 12:01 am we add meat topping to the pizza. Assorted cocktails.

Than I go home to sleep. Christmas day I have family over, the family has gotten smaller -some moved some passed away, sorry to depress anyone. I do the cooking so about 4 pm I take up the tradition of sleeping in front of the TV left vacant by by grand fathers passing.

The best thing about the holidays is taking the time to remember family times.

This year I may be spending time at the place I am voulenteering for school - children removed from parents.

Anyway keep the traditions coming.
