I wish there was a green barf-face icon because that's how just the mere thought of this makes me feel...

BIL is bringing his deep fryer to MIL's and is going to deep fry thier turkey in peanut oil...Beond the fact that DD is alergic to peanuts (apparatly MIL is roasting a turkey the traditional way too TG!)...the thought of this makes my tummy upset, then thoughts of major heartburrn race through my head, my thoughts turn again to running to the potty...UGH beyond that physical discomfort thoughts of not having a heart attack start racing in my mind...such a comment I *WILL* make when BIL asks me why I'm not having any of *his* turkey...you know comments like "Its only once, why not live a little?"

I have to tell you that we deep fry our turkey every year. It is incredible tasting! talk about juicy, and no, not oily! Yummy. Now on the lighter side, I will be roasting one too for my diet. But if you get the chance and are not allergic to peanuts, taste it. I think you will be nicely surprised. It actually flash fries and doesn't get all goopy and oily. It is really very, very good! Nothing like KFC chicken oily. Be very careful though, fire danger is a risk as the flame sits below the pot and if it boils over, it is a fire risk. Make sure they put the turkey in and fill with water, take out the turkey and mark the fill line. Dry completely (even the turkey) and fill with oil....you may know all this so I will shush. I really think you're gonna like it...ALOT!

Well Heather--- not that I have tried a fried turkey, but I have heard that they do taste really good. Apart from hoping for snow for you (;wink;) could you explain to your brother about how you physically feel about eating it, and then maybe try just a teeny-weeny piece? And then enjoy the more traditional turkey!

Other than that....don't know what else to say.

For your sake I do *hope* some snow falls your way ;-)

HI Heather...

Ok, not knowing the family.... mmm dynamics, I'll just focus on the food issue itself. I gave up meat 2 years ago, although I do indulge in a bit of turkey, I don't eat meat at any other time. Whenever we have a family get together I just polietly say no thank you. The few times it has been an issue, I polietly say a little firmer, Thank you but no. NOW if that doesn't work I say. "I'm in training." BInGO that gets them all off on a tangent about how insane I am to actually want to exercise, much less train and compete in triathlons, blah blah blah. (O it's even more effective if you manage to get in a workout before you go to the family meal, and casually toss it out during the question phase.) Soon, they forget to force feed me meat. Trust me "I'm in Training" works in many many situations and it doesn't cause a fight. Just be armed with a bunch of information on your race and what Triathlon is so they can really get a grasp on how insane you are. O and have a tough skin from all those naysayers, but it's better then eating fried food and it also allows you the healthier option of the roasted version without it seeming like you are being a butt.

GOOD LUCK!

Sabrina
