Empower my eating - in my dreams

From the Empower YOur Eating thread: >>>>>Step 1: Take responsibility for your eating. Be accountable for your health, and specifically, find an eating plan that can fit into your lifestyle. You must recognize that no one can do this for you; if you don't take the lead, nothing will get done.<<<<<

Ugh! This is where I have the problem...and why I am here. I feel like such a loser (only not in the weight-loo dept). Every day, I say, "Today will be the day. I am going to eat right and start to loose this weight." I may or may not start the day out right, but you can bet the farm that by the end of the day I will have sabotaged my diet.

Speaking of "diet" - I really need to find an eating plan that I can use and stick to. I have no idea where to start and now with all of this low-carb stuff I am 100% confused. I nurse my DD and need to be careful how I go about losing weight, so as not to affect my supply. I am not comfortable with artificial sweeteners so I shy away from the low carb diets. If I go towards the low-fat ones, I end up hungry. I also use to think that low-fat snacks such as pretzels and rice cakes were a great alternative but know enough about low-carb that now I think they aren't quite so healthy. I am so confused - it's like there isn't a thing out there that is good for me.

I eat for emotional reasons - I must b/c I am never really hungry. I notice that I eat a lot more at night, after dinner. That is the way I used to smoke. I might smoke 5 sickarettes throughout the day, and then another 15 between work and bedtime. When I quit smoking over 4 years ago I replaced those sticks with food. Now how do I get off this roller coaster?

Sorry to vent - I am just so frustrated and need some help. Thanks for listening.

Hey Laurie, I'm sending you lots of hugs and support, because it is crazy out there in the fitness and diet world.

You know it all really comes down to responsibility, doesn't it?

Laurie, I think Miranda's suggestion of talking to your doctor is an important one, especially with you feeding the baby. You want to make sure you're taking great care of not only yourself, but of them too.

Do you journal? If not starting one might really help too. But in your case I would also suggest having a place where you can not only journal the foods but your thoughts too. Perhaps you'll see a pattern as to why you are eating what you eat, when you eat it.

Late night snacking is a bit*h! For me I either try to have something to do- like work on the computer, or give myself a pedicure....anything that I find difficult to eat at the same time, lol!

Here's an article on Late Night Snacking
