The diet that worked for me

I just wanted to share.

As important as exercise is, I have found, that controlling your diet, goes a long way, and personally, I think has more of an impact on weightloss and maintenance than excercise.

I am not negating the importance of excersise, moderate activity is very important, but given the two factors, I would pick dieting.

I do not mean dieting in the restrictive sense, but in the sense of eating a variety of foods, that provide nutrition value, (rather than deficits)

I used to run every day for an hour, then I was injured, and now, all I do is walk on my lunchbreak. I do however, get 30 grams of fiber a day, 1200mg of calcium, I cut out all the white carbs, and eat plenty of chicken, tofu, and vegees. I have never felt better. When I do not excerise, it so much easier to control appetite.

I finally lost the inches that I've been trying to lose. But just like excersice, I keep my body guessing with the diet thing too. Every third day, I allow myself to binge. (Binge meaning over 1500 -2500 calories, as opposed to 1200 calories)

Really it works.

I only drink water, wine, grapefruit, cranberry and carrot juice, all kinds of teas and coffees.

I eat whatever i want, but I do cut out the white carbs, as it just makes me crave more bad stuff.

I eat good protein, and put Anyway protein in my coffee. I eat tofu, sardines, chicken and fish.

I make my own salad dressings, putting w/. tahini (good protein) or tofu, for a protein boost.

I have a lot of navy been recipes (ie soup fagioli, navy bean soup)(50% fiber per cup). You eat this, and this gets rid of all your cravings. No wonder I see variations of these recipes in sports books.

Sedigua, it sound like you are basically getting lots of fiber and protein and eliminating simple carbs, which is a lot like South Beach. I think this is the healthiest way of eating too. You know, it is still so important to lift weights b/c we lost muscle as we get older. I think that, no matter what the diet, muscle building is also key.
p.s. I try to follow a diet that is exactly how you are eating!

So that is what South Beach is!! Yeah, I know you are right with the whole weight lifting thing, that is so true. But then, how come I just can not stay on my diet when I do this?? I mean, I know you are supposed to exercise, but then, all the eating that transpires after that, negates, ALL of that.

I know! :o) I just read a little blurb about that in my recent Fitness magazine. Exercise/weight training raises our metabolism, which makes us hungrier. Kinda self-defeating, isn't it? Fitness suggested filling up on lots of water and water products (fruits, veggies, soups, etc.) Other than that, their only advice was that we need to just have a strong commitment...try to distract ourselves somehow when hunger strikes. This is really hard for me b/c I'm around junk food junkies at work and a DS and DH at home. It's like I can't ever really get away from food. Fortunately, with a diet that avoids simple carbs, I can at least eat snacks like almonds, cheese and hard-boiled eggs without feeling really deprived like I do when I eat low-fat.

OK then, I will just have to try harder. I kinda copped out with the success with dieting/no cardio/weight training thing, I lost inches, AND muscle I am sure.

After Hap Ki Do, the only thing I want is Gatorade. But I do know that, on the days I do lighter workouts, I sometimes looks for stuff. I like apples when that happens. They're cool and sweet and usually filling.

I am an exercise advocate. I read another post that mentioned weight training. We need to keep lifting, after 30 especially, to keep our metabolism where it should be as it tends to decline with age.

It definitely sounds like you have a good eating plan going, and that you invest a lot of effort into keeping it on track. I've gotten better with that, but I would like to improve even more in the coming year.
