I just started my plan today!

I just started a weight loss plan today. I have gained so much weight in recent years. I am excited about the new regiment. What is hardest for me is cooking dinner. I am trying to focus on low fat/low calorie recipes. I will be eating about 2000 calories a day with about 30 to 35 grams of fat a day. I will also be drinking about six 8oz. glasses of water a day. I think this will be cutting back and losing weight considering all the fast food, sodas, and junk I was eating before. My vegetables will be steamed and I hope to incorporate a lot of fish. I did "my plan" a few years ago and lost weight successfully, but did not reach my goal. It wasn't because I was hungry, but because I got bored. My two main problems are variety and eating out. I love to eat out, but don't know what do do in a restaurant. Any suggestions on cooking at home or eating out? I tried Weight Watchers due to the eating out options. However, I lost a minimal amount of weight. Not enough to stay encouraged. It was because I wanted to lose a half a pound to one pound a week. I was losing like .2 on WW. That is not much when you have over 50 pounds to lose. Any suggestions on menus or eating out?

Hi, and Welcome!

Sounds like you have a really sensible plan! Good for you!

As for going out; and 'being good'.....some restaurants have NO idea of portion control- do they?? Here's a couple of tips I use;

i) I try not to have App, Entree and Desert- I'll either do only one or two- never (actually, never say never- rarely) all three!!

ii) Go easy on the bread- if having any. And I pass on the butter if I do have some bread.

iii) Drink some water before eating.

iv) If having salad- choose the dressing CAREFULLY! The same goes with any entree with a sauce. Some of those can be drenched with calories!!!

v) Eat slowly- this way I'm more likely not to finish everything, and if I want I can get the rest 'to go'.

Hope that helps some, looking forward to posting with you ~IslandGirl

Best Wishes for 2005
