HI. I am 33 years old, my name is Kelly. I have been married for 14 years and have a 9 year old daughter. My weight has been a teeter totter. I have tried every diet you can think of! Atkins(which almost killed me!), South Beach, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and millions of crazy ones you find in magazines. I lose, I gain. I hate to excersize. I am fine once I start, but getting to the starting point... does the term root canal mean anything to you?!? I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides(which run in my family). I am also trying to conceive and have PCOS, which is directly affected by weight. I started at almost 192 lbs, I am only 5 feet tall. I got down to about 160 on all my various diets, and now am back up to about 171. I feel tired and yucky all the time, not to mention how I feel about me! I don't know what to try next, and what I will be able to stick with, I am so ADD! I get bored and tired of them after just a short amount of time, and am OCD with my scale and want to weigh every time I pass the bathroom! Any suggestions about what has helped everyone else would be good. Maybe I can incorporate a little of each one and keep it interesting! Well, thanks for letting me ramble, and thanks in advance!

Hi, and Welcome!

You have stumbled onto a wonderful board- there are some really terrific people around here, waiting and needing the same support you're looking for!

It certainly sounds like you have been on this 'fitness' wagon before, so I'm sure you have a good idea about how to start off....the tricky part is staying on, right?

For most of us that IS the hardest part, but I seriously think we HAVE to remind ourselves as to why we are doing this- to better ourselves; because we are worth it; to ensure our health, etc....Keeping these in mind will help keep you focussed!

I suggest small changes- drinking extra water- cutting back on calories- incorporating exercise- as we say here "baby steps"......

Hope to post with you again soon, Good Luck ~IslandGirl

Best Wishes for 2005

Hi, Kelly,

You will receive some good ideas here. And I know the cls posted about little changes. They are so right. After a while the little changes become habits and then one can make a few more little changes.

Upon someone else's suggestion, I stopped drinking regular pop in the morning. Then, I eventually stopped drinking pop in the morning all together, got rid of my caffine habit. I also brought a big cup to work so I can drink water all day. What we drink is one little change that can cut out a lot of calories.

BF and I (work together at a newspaper) stopped going out for lunch every day and started buying wheat or seven grain breads and making turkey or tuna sandwiches and eating baby carrots.

When one looks back on those little changes after a year, one sees a more significant difference than expected.

As far as exercise, I love it so I'm fortunate there. Is there anything you enjoy, or always wanted to try like joining an adult softball team through your local rec department or dancing or swimming. It's not too late to start a new sport. I started martial arts training when I was 29 and we have white belts start who are much older than we are.

Good luck and hang in there. With those baby steps, results will come.
