Where do you find motivation
| Tue, 01-11-2005 - 9:40am |
Morning all.
Just wondering where you get your motivation from? Or how you stay motivated?
I am good all day than after work I eat something I shouldn't or skip the work out.
What are your thoughts.

Hey Robyn, I'm not sure if I can answer this, as it's also an issue for me.
Ya know, that one seems to be a tough one for everyone!
Keeping a journal for food and workouts motivates me.
I'm not weighing again until end of Phase 1!
Thanks ladies.
I draged myself out of bed this morning for a 50 min work out.
Felt good after.

Whoo hoo, you early bird you!!
But, also, having a place to write down what I'm eating and exercising makes me accountable to myself. You can take so much pride and pleasure from seeing what you've done. We can make ourselves think that we're doing more or less than what is true, so paper makes a huge difference. For example, and this is a great one, I use to sell a popular brand of cosmetics from my home. I went to all the meetings, took notes, signed up for every extra opportunity etc. and did almost everything that was suggested by the higher up people. In my head, I was sooo busy and successful at my business and even put off an aroma of success so much so that the rest of the unit thought I was successful too. Anyway, at the end of the year when I was doing my taxes, I went through my sales papers and found that I'd only had three "parties" the entire 12 months. That was a shocker to me because I was convinced that I had to have done more than that! I spent about $7,000 on product/supplies and such, but had only profited about $1500. My eyes were opened to the truth about what I had been doing, spending, and what I had not been doing, holding "parties" to make money. You can't deny the truth if you write the truth down!
The legitimate motivation for me to maintain a healthy weight and life style is the history of heart disease (high blood preasure and cholesterol) on mom's side of the family.
On a day to day basis though, I agree with the poster who mentioned seeing one's self naked is a great motivator to lose. Actually it wasn't naked, but I was in a changing room at a department store and I saw myself in the full length mirror. I was so depressed about it.
I work out six days a week most weeks. But it's the eating, and it's better than it has been. I have to do better with the diet, more fruits and veggies and less "just a little" junk food.
I also started a food and exercise journal, but seeing the truth in the mirror definitely motivates a person.
All of that aside, I do feel a lot better when I eat well and work out like I should.

I have done a weird thing for the last 4 years...
Every time the winter season arrives I buy my new winter jeans one size smaller and toss all the old ones. I have to slim into the new ones or keep "freezing" (in CA) in my summer jeans. Once I can finally get the zipper closed AND sit down I toss all my summer jeans except one pair. (My dh can barely keep his face straight at some of my futire attempts. Once he had to help me get out of a way too tight pair - hard work!)
This is a HUGE motivator for me and gets me to lose weight all thru the holiday season! That's how I got from a size 16 down to a size 10.
Of course you could also pick the switch to your summer stuff instead. :)

Hey Robyn,
I thought I'd poke my head in and say hi. I haven't seen you on the Yahoo board in awhile. How are you doing? And your home? Hope all is good.
BTW, I can't answer the question, because I have yet to find my own motivation, as you can see by my posts, I don't have any and just have been having a crappy month so far.
Good luck!
