Okay, I'm thinking about buying a stationary bike or treadmill. I had a bike once and ended up getting rid of it because it just sat there and I hated looking at it.

What exercise equipment have you all invested money in? Was it worth it? What are your recommendations and why?

Well, I've not got any major exercise equipment, because I'd rather go to the gym for that sort of thing.

Good point. I think most of you said you go to the gym. I could see myself pushing myself a little harder in that atmosphere as well. I may rethink and join someplace.

I have a treadmill that I can plug into my headphones or a stereo and it will adjust my speed and incline with the iFit Cd's (iFit technology t'mills widely available from many stores. www.ifit.com sells the Cd's). They have a "personal trainer" on the Cd that encourages you to work. I really like them. They really make time fly by. Great music, great support.

HI Gretchen....

I've had a ton of exercise equipment.

Exercise bikes are a good investment...
if you get the low end models so you can easily move it around the house. Before I got hooked on Triathlons I had a very old exercise bike someone in my family was going to throw away. The boys were little then and I was able to move that thing all over the house and exercise when and where they were playing or watching a movie. I even took it out in the yard on occassion. It was great. Now I have my Road bike attached to a Bike trainer. Which is Ideal if you have the money to spend on the higher end exercise bikes because you have a real bike you can take outside (Or if you already have a bike Mountain or road at home its the same or cheaper then a stationary low end bike just to buy the trainer for 100 bucks.) This gives you much more versatitlty in your workouts.

Treadmills If you have the room GREAT
I loved my treadmill back when I 1) didn't have time to workout during the day and didn't feel safe walking at night I got a ton of use out of my treadmill. Also, when I began running it was winter and there was no way I was going to go outdoors. BRRRR. Thankfully for my triathlon carreer the darn thing broke(after years of use) and I was forced to go run in the weather. Now I can run in ran/snow/sleet/and extreme heat. However I still don't run at night or early AM when it's dark so there are times I would still have use for one. They are a good investment.Again though try to place it where you have a TV. It's so much easier to pretend you are a hamster if you can stay entertained.

BowFlex
Just got it and Love it but I wouldn't think it would be the right "First" piece of equipment because it takes serious thought to get started with it. LOL O and some minor machine assembly knowledge. YIKES

Bossa Ball...
Love mine but it's what I would refer to as supplemental equipment. However, if you want something on a very tight budget it is the best ab/glute/strength training machine on the market in that price range. And it makes a good computer chair.

Other odds and ends
I've had a roller ab thingy and some sort of bike scissors looking thingy and a ski thingy, etc. Note the use of the words thingy for me the only pieces that have been effective and have worked are the ones mentioned above.

Good luck

Miranda, I did some looking and found the equipment that goes along with "ifit" CDs. I could only find them at Sears here. Which my options are limited. I assume maybe major sporting good chains might have them as well. However, places like Wal-mart did not.

Does sound way cool doesn't it!
