Need motivation.........

Okay, here it is. I'm almost 38 (yuck) and while in clothes you'd probably think I look okay, maybe even good, it's without clothes that it gets a little scary. I'm almost 5 '7" and probably weigh about 148. I'd like to drop about 10-15 pounds. While I'm still the same size (8) things are starting to shift, change, move, droop, whatever. And then there's the pooch. It used to be just a little belly. I've always had a little rounded belly even when stick skinny. And that's okay. After all, I am a woman and that little rounded belly is where my uterus is! I have no desire for a FLAT belly. (Okay, maybe I'd just like to have that once just to see what it is like!) Anyway, never really exercised and after 2 kids w/o any real exercise I look pretty good but stuff is floppin' around and my belly's getting a little out of control & I'm getting a little grossed out. We bought a Total Gym machine & it works suprisingly well . DH even uses it and says that he is sore the next day. The problem is I really need the cardio for all-over fat burning. I don't have the stamina for running and walking on the treadmill bores me to tears. I'd like to do some sort of class but I haven't come across any place around me where you can just take classes and not have to pay for use of an entire gym. There is a Jazzercise nearby but I really hate walking into a place like that alone. I wish I had a buddy to go with. I want to change my ahbits and take better care of myslef. I know I need to do it now because the older I get, the harder it will be. I'm not ready to be a soft middle aged dorky mom. Help!!!! I need motivation! Anyone in nassau county want to go to Jazzercise with me ! LOL!

Hi, Elise. Welcome to the board. I agree with Sabrina about getting a tape for home use. If you don't feel comfortable going alone to a class or gym, don't waste your money on contracts because you probably won't use it. I've done that and it's miserable. I discovered that I like working out at home better. I get up before the kids and exercise in the morning so there's fewer distractions. Go to the library and check out Jorge Cruise's books "8 Minutes in the Morning" and see if this would work well for you. It's helped me with diciplining myself and it's simple to follow. Plus, it really does only take 8 minutes to do the routine so I'm not late to work or spending too much time away from the kids. I've already lost 1 1/2 pounds! Remember, your health starts in your head. Positive self talk is crucial and I'll tell you why. This very statement turned on the "light bulb" for me: How do you treat something you hate? Wow, this threw me for a loop! I never thought about it that way. I didn't realize how badly I thought about my body, so I changed my thoughts and continued to exercise with a healthy diet and that's when I lost weight. I hope this helps!

>>>>Find a charity walk or run in your area, and get out there and train!! It gives you a date to work towards, and you can choose to walk or run, whatever you like!! Plus, I always find paying that registration fee motivates me GREATLY to do it!! LOL---clmiranda<<<

You are so right Miranda...

On the same thought this is exactly how I got sucked into the world of Triathlons. I needed something to "train" for after I had lost all the weight I wanted to loose. 2 years later I'm still happily plugging along.

Welcome Elise!

I agree with some of the others- exercise video's....but it sounds like you want the company too. Have you checked out the local gym or talked to friends to see if they're interested in starting a 'walking club' (for instance??)

Sounds like you have a fairly good outlook and are ready to make some changes to help...Good Luck, and looking forward to posting with you-
