New here... opening with a "Big Share"..

Greetings all,

I'm new here and in need of the 'final push'... Having lost #159 in the last two years, I'm closing in on my goal... barely #50 left.

A bit of my background... My weight ballooned following a extremely complicated medical and RX catastrophy in the mid-90's. I went from a size 10/12 to a 32+ (nothing is more humiliating than having NOTHING at Lane Bryant fit... and only buying clothes based on what sorta covers your body). I had modeled 'small sizes' in the late 80's at the local level and this was such a dramatic change that I hid for years...

A couple of years ago I was watching a football game and realized (as they ran the stats) that I outweighed most of the team. Not exactly a refreshing accomplishment. It was then that I decided I had to DO SOMETHING even if it meant going against medical advice and taking myself off the meds. That 'tweek' took over a year... but slowly the weight started coming off.

FFWD to 2004... I began swimming 5x a week... 45 minutes straight... weight melted off. Now I work out at the gym 4-5x a week (30 cardio, 30-45 weights) and my body is looking so much better and I feel fantastic. I even got my nerve up to emotionally support myself and I've since finished my B.A, a M.S. and now am working on a Ph.D.

So... why am I here? I'm looking at where I was, how far I came and am terrified of becoming 'satisfied' before I reach my goal. I catch myself thinking, "dang girl, you've come SOOOOOO FARRRRRRRRR... just skip the gym today... you DESERVE IT". I don't give in but that doesn't mean the temptation isn't there. I'm not concerned that I "can't" get to my final goal, I'm just needing to know how other folks are blazing their 'final pounds' paths...

Any tips, advice or cheer would be appreciated... I look forward to seeing how others handle this.

Congrats on your success so far. I hope you're feeling better physically. I agree with the others, don't give in now. and really, a committment to good health should last a lifetime so we have many years of exercising and eating well to go, but hopefully those two things will give us many good years.

Gosh,
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I truly appreciate the encouragement. I'll pop in where it's appropriate.

Here's a question for 'someone'... As a former "clothes horse", this is hard...I'm at the 'only two pairs of pants fit' stage... thank goodness I wised up a bit ago and bought a few knit skirts that I can 'work down' with. But what to do with all the other clothes. Over the years I've just given them to a local thrift store run by a hospice (seemed worthy) but my pals are telling me I've been a fool not to sell them on EBay. I've given some stuff to a few friends and have about 3 big trash bags of stuff down by the hall to go out again... so, what do YOU do? Do you donate? Pass on? Sell?

I want to welcome you and congratulate you too! I was thinking about something that could keep you from getting "complaicant" at your current weight (you have done so well!). If I were you , I would pick a really great bathingsuit or summer outfit that is too small now, but will fit you at your goal weight. Keep trying it on and see how it starts to fit better and better. Hang it by your mirror to remind you. One big motivator for me is our beach vacation in July. I keep thinking about how I want to have some cute things to wear to the beach..and it helps me stay motivated. I'm only two weeks into my diet, but I haven't messed up once, and that is really an accomplishment for me. :)

Oh, and about the donate/ebay question. If I needed the money to buy new smaller clothes, then I would sell on ebay. It's pretty easy to do. Kind of a hassle to mail things off though. If I didn't need the money for a new wardrobe, I would donate them. You can ask for a reciept and deduct it on your taxes next year. That's what I would do. :)
