It's no secret that dieters often succeed in losing weight, only to have it return within two years. In fact, statistics show that happens about half of the time! So how can you make sure you're among the 50 percent that takes the weight off for good?

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia say the secret is to focus on changing three key areas — 1)decreasing portion sizes; 2)eliminating empty calorie sources and; 3)getting active on a daily basis. They found dieters who took this triple approach were far more likely to not only reach their goal weight, but to maintain it over time.

1) You can start by measuring out food portions until you can accurately eyeball a single serving. Oversized restaurant portions have left many of us out of touch with how much that really is!

2) Be on the lookout for foods and drinks that add calories — but no nutritional value — to your diet. Soda pop, sweets, fried foods, junk foods, and candy are just some empty-calorie foods you can eliminate!

3) Seal your success with a daily workout that stimulates your metabolism and taps into fat stores. Set these three simple changes in motion, and you'll be well on your way to lifetime weight management!

You can do it!

Thanks IG, portion control is such a huge one for me, I almost always overserve.

I *thought* I knew what decent portions were! I was wrong! I was just telling my husband that what we have learned from counting our calories is teaching us what portion sizes should be...and after we lose this weight we will never have weight problems again, because we will understand what good limits are for us. :)
