morning workouts?
| Mon, 02-21-2005 - 9:31pm |
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has tips for how to get motivated to work out in the morning. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow before work...but I know I'll be tempted to hit the snooze button. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Oh, I'm 'there' on this one, too. I HATE MORNINGS... that said, I have an 8 year old who LOVES mornings... and who has to be taken to school. Funny how life 'gets ya'....lol. I tried working out in the afternoon &/or evening... by that time of day, I was too pooped. Couldn't do it. Goodness gracious... it dawned on me one day, take him to school and hit the gym BEFORE I started my day (I'm a pt wohm/ft single mom/ft Ed.D. student so my day times are a bit 'unusual'). Well, now I find myself getting him to school early (so I can get the spot on the treadmills by the giant fan...lol). I'm there M/T/Th/Fri... and if I 'have' to miss a day, I get all twitchy. Who would have EVER EVER thought I would crave that morning workout? Not me.
Now... to get myself that point, I had to impose a little tough love. Hanging my gym clothes in the doorway to my bedroom the night before. Can't get out unless I 1) lift them up (on my mind), 2) run into them (on my mind) or 3) take them down and ignore them (on my mind). Then to 'cover my back', I put my tennis shoes against the front door. If I manage to overcome my clothing set up in the a.m... those shoes have made me run upstairs last minute to 'do the right thing'. It's all about setting myself up for success... the night before.
Oh, and invest in a good mp3 player that straps to your bicep. Nothing gets that a.m. blood rushing like Clapton and old Blondie tunes (Layla? Rapture? Call Me?). Then again I'm due to change my tracks this week... headed for some Wynonna and Dixie Chicks (a big 'Good Bye Earl' fan here... oh and THAT songs makes ya lift A LOT more weight).
Hope those help... the basic thing is to set yourself up for success... cause lord knows we've all easily set ourselves up for failure one too many times and who needs it now.
Go girlie... you CAN do it.

Hi ladies, I have a question to ask about good low carb protein bars. Do any of you have a good one to try. I love peanut butter, chocolate, not to much more. Give me some good ones please.
Oh I am new to this board. I am a stay at home mom and I go to school full time, I find it very hard to wake up the morning as well. I have something to try tomorrow morning. I will put my alarm clock across my bedroom and then I will have to wake up to tur it off and then I will stay up in the morning.
So thanks for any and all help you ladies can give on the protein bars.
Good luck to all

I'm of the 'Peanut Butter/Chocolate' variety too... the 'fruit' ones taste like vitamins. Here are my favs: 1) "Power Bar- Protein Plus- Carb Select" w/ 2 gram impact carbs and 22 grams of protein. 2) Zone - Perfect with 13 g/sugar and 16 g/protein. While the zone bar is better tasting (think pb rice crispy treat covered in chocolate...yummy) the sugar is highger... I usually offset the sugar by eating it for breakfast with a hard boiled egg. The Power Bar is decent in a pinch.
About an hour before I hit the gym, I eat one of these 'things' (lol) and drink some caffeine. My body purrs like a well running machine.
Good hunting.

Why do these bars have so much sugar in them?
Martina
Cause otherwise they'd taste like bark-dust with prenatal vitamins ground in them.

LOL ~ oh, that's priceless.
Are you old enough to remember "Tiger Bars"? (came out in the mid 70's) OMG... you're 'tasting' those ugly suckers for days...
Seriously though... bodies NEED a certain amount of carbs to properly utilize the masses of proteins and 'other' in the bars... and sugar acts in that capacity. Just be sure to balance out the carbs (try to keep them under 10-15 grams) with a high dose of proteins...
And get your body moving.

Welcome to the board!!!
I had a friend suggest this one bar that was suppose to taste like Lemon Chiffon. At the time I was cleaning houses for a living and I swear that thing tasted like Lemon Pledge! It was horrrrrrible! I couldn't get that taste memory out of my mouth or head.
These are the reasons why I think morning workouts are better;
1. kid's are still asleep
2. they can't ask you questions or for help
3. it sets your metabolism for the next 15 hours as opposed to the evening which is only
2 1/2 to 3 hours.
4. gives you energy for the day
5. wakes you up and warms you up
6. you don't have to think about having to exercise for the rest of the day or try to schedule it in
7. in the evenings, kids are too needy with their extra curricular activities and homework
8. there's too many good excuses in the evenings to put off exercising until "tomorrow" which rarely ever comes.
9. not suppose to exercise within 3 hours of bedtime or it can keep you awake. This conflicts with the work and family schedule since I don't get home unitl 5:40, we have to eat dinner after practice etc. and I don't get time to myself unitl about 9pm which is way too late to exercise and be in bed by 10.
I love my children, but if they're up and they know I'm up, the questions never cease. Just this morning, I came out of my room twice to get something and both times was intercepted by a kid with a question and went back to my room without my item! Such a time waster. It's sooo frustrating.
