What are your feelings on diet pills?

I have always been pretty much against the use of diet pills - dexatrim, corti-slim, metabolife, etc... but am starting to wonder if they might help give me a push in the right direction on controlling my food. I am doing real good with the exercising and actually do real well all day long with my food. But, when I get home after work I am hungry, I have to make dinner and I start snacking while I do it. That sets the tone for the night, I am constantly shoveling junk in my mouth. I am wondering if the diet pills would help me not be so hungry when I get home and help curb the snacking. Even if it is just the mental idea that I am taking diet pills and therefore should not be eating. I have to admit though that I am concerned about how safe they really are. Any thoughts?

I would snack on something healthy if you need to snack at all. It's a better altenative than diet pills. Soy nuts are good. You can snack on baby carrots and dip them in a low fat dressing. Celery sticks with peanut butter is good.
Just find healthy alternatives. Now if I follow my own advice...
I am like you with diet pills, and I too question their safety.
I also used to be very hungry when I'd get home, and that would lead to snacking while waiting for dinner. I've found a few tricks to help with that. As the other post said, you could snack on baby carrots or something while you are preparing dinner.
One other thing I do, especially when I go home for a visit and am baking with mom or if I'm preparing dinner for guests, is have a bottle of water to drink while I am working in the kitchen. It helps me not to nibble while I am cooking. I think it's Fruit2O that is the flavored water that has no calories; it's pretty good and less boring than water.
When I remember, I bring a big apple to work and have it late in the afternoon, that way I'm not starving when I walk into my place.

NO NO NO!!!
Okay, now I'll tell you how I REALLY feel.
I have tried diet pills before - and I ate just as much or more on them than without them.
I would take the advice already given by other posters, and have a low fat, low calorie snack and some water in the late afternoon. Sometimes what we think is hunger is really thirst, and sometimes we actually do need an extra snack to keep us going. There are times that I have 3 snacks in a day - but I choose healthy ones, such as yogurt, carrots, or pretzels. I also make smoothies or protein shakes, depending on what I need calorie and nutrient wise.
Hope this helps!

Mom to two wonderful girls!
Now I can't help but say the old cliche'...."there is no magic pill". Sorry, but very true. Losing weight takes self control, motivation, dedication, and LOTS of hard, hard work. Eat less, move more. Calories in < calories burned.
Keep a food journal. If you are eating more at night, you will be zinging all over the place if you take those babies too late to control late cravings.
