Building a Foundation

I am new to this discussion but would love join and get some help and advice.I feel as though I used to know how to succeed, I used to have the motivation, I used to "understand" that losing weight takes time. I would get started and wait a month to really assess results. Now, if I don't see results in a week I forget the plan, laze around and eat all day. I used to be a small girl. I need to build a foundation again, a foundation of understanding and patience for health, diet and fitness but I don't know how anymore- my body is not the same and I just can't seem to find a balance. It's also the chicken and the egg... which came first, the lack of motivation or stopping the exercise.

Welcome to this fantastic board!!!
Welcome to our fabulous board!! :-)
You will find lots of support here, and reading through many of the posts will inspire you to keep on with whatever program you're doing. As cl-Miranda said we do encourage baby steps to begin with....not so overwhelming. There's challenge iVillage was/is doing (ChangeOne, it's in it's final week now) where there was one thing you were focussing on each week. I do believe that the challenge was more on food than on exercise, but it's a thought you could try-
Week 1- focus on healthier snacks
Week 2- increase your water intake
...etc...
You could also include some exercise into your baby steps weekly focus.
Do have a look at our LOVE challenge going on, you'll find the posts for it in our "check in" folder, two down from this one. Another great place to find support is down in our journal section. Feel free to start a weekly journal with us down there.
Once again, welcome aboard~

1. Pick one thing to change, when you get successful at that one thing, then add one more.
2. You don't fail until you fail to get back up.
I honestly believe both. I agree with Miranda not to overwhelm yourself with too much too soon. I had a trainer that only had me exercising and wouldn't even discuss food until I was really ready.
I read a success story in my Fitness magazine today that I thought was great. She said that at first she needed her boyfriend to help keep her accountable with diet and exercise, but after the first 3 months she was able to go it alone without the outside motivation. I think that motivation can start from outside sources but then ends up inside yourself.
Check out some books from the library or videos and see what you like, what'll work for you. That's the most important thing, to find out what will work for you and your lifestyle, work, family, etc.
Best wishes, Ginger
'Course you can look (and feel) great again! I think one step you should take today is +positive attitude+ and take it from there. I'm sure you've seen in magazines or tv shows 'before and after' photo's of people who have done it. We can too!
