and I was really grossed out. I honestly do not beleive that I, or my children, will ever eat fast food again. I can atleast assuredly say that it will not longer be on any type of regular basis...not even once a month. I learned a few different things from this. One was that I had no idea that eating out so often (not eating at home) had such a huge impact on our health. It makes sense though. Another was that I am going to be very protective of my children now, when it comes to advertising and lures. I don't want them to have warm fuzzy feelings, as adults, about McDonalds....I want them to have warm fuzzy feelings over certain family meals (made at home) and the time spent together...not the toys and commercials of fast food places. And I was already planning to do this, but now I'm absolutely going to do it...and that is to have my daughter always take a lunch to school...no more school lunches. I'll also be teaching her about nutrition. Another thing is that I am absolutely starting to exercise tomorrow...and I going to take every opportunity to increase my steps in a days time. Where do I buy a pedometer???
This is really a good one to watch. I will warn you that it's not one to watch with your kids...it has some pretty bad cussing in it, footage of that stomach bypass surgery, as well as a *slightly* blocked out view of the guy getting a colon check...didn't see that one coming...EWWWW. And the man weighs in wearing american flag speedos, LOL. Oh, and we rented this from a local video store, since we dont' have showtime.

You mentioned warm fuzzy feelings about meals when kids are adults. It used to be that one would think of mom's special dinner or that each person in the family had a particular favorite that she would cook for them.
I'm not providing that for my family and I'm a SAHM! My parents weren't good cooks, but that's no excuse for me to not put effort into a meal. I have some recipes that were hits, so I plan on adding to that and cooking on a regular basis.
Our parents didn't have much fast food around, so they had to rely on planning ahead and bringing food for trips. I remember having a cooler of sandwiches whenever we drove long distances. I have to admit that DH and I rely on fast food at rest stops.
I saw Supersize Me and thought I would completely reject the fast food industry, but sorry to say I haven't.
But, after reading your post, it reminded me again of how I felt after seeing that movie and now I vow to cook memorable meals that make my kids feel warm and fuzzy.
Thanks!
Shannon
Shannon, I'm a SAHM too. During my horrible two and a half years (where I put on tons of weight), we were eating out atleast every other day...and on those days usually it was lunch and dinner...so it had to average to every day at the minimum! Even now, the past 6-7 weeks that we have switched back to healthy...I was letting the kids have happymeals about twice a week...as treats...but now I really understand how I'm not doing them any favors at all getting them those! Even *with* getting the apple juice and the apple slices with it...it's still bad, *and* its reinforcing that habit for them. I really didn't understand that until yesterday. Like you, I'm going to start doing better. My goal is to avoid fast food *forever* and I really do mean that. That would have shocked me a few months ago and I would have said "Oh, that's so extreme and that's really not possible"...but that was just ME falling for all the marketing hype those fast food industries pump out there. I can live with out them and be very happy (and healthy!) lol. I'm really glad you shared that. I'm even more motivated now. :)

Sylvie,
The movie will keep you from those places as well. And DH may even give up granola and eat pebbles LOL.
Shannon
I did not know that! lol.

That comment might actually be enough to turn anyone off Taco Bell (ugh!! wonder what it has to 'contain' to be a grada E????) Knowing this I'm now quite thankful we don't have one down here, lol!
Lucky for me....
