Well as i had some time back said in my intro message I had started my walk/running routine and I think I was doing well...I had started running and end of it feel happy...problem started 3 days back.Monday when I went to the gym I couldnt run as much as I had last week ...I blamed it on inactive sunday but then I was tired all of tuesday and did not want to do anything at all...forced myself onto the treadmill (thought I will get into it once I start...well I stopped after 15 minutes as I felt too tired and not enough energy to continue.

So Sunday, Monday and tuesday 3 days with no running (did do some weights on Monday though ) ... I hope I am able to get something done today..Wish me luck.

Why am I feeling so tired?...I dont know ... havent done anything new or anything extra.

Wonder how much should u force urself ? How much is too much ?

I was going to ask you how the running is going. I am interested to hear what advice people have as well.

The program I am using to get ready for the 5K recommends only 3 days per week of run/walk training, increasing the running time each week. However, I saw another program that had a training schedule where there was some run/walk stuff every day, except one day off. With class I just can't fit that one in.

I started last week while I was house sitting because they have a nice treadmill. I did four days of the run/walk thing. I did two in a row, but needed a break on Wed so did Pilates and arm work. Then Thursday, I did the run/walk thing again. Wasn't too bad, but not as much energy as Monday's and even Tuesday's workouts. I had HKD both Friday and Saturday, then I decided to do a run/walk again on Sunday because that was the last day I would have use of the treadmill. It was tough.

I haven't run since Sunday. Did Pilates and weights Monday and HKD class last night. It's nice today so I'm going to give it a shot after work and see how I feel. I think I'll feel ready and good again, but I'm a bit nervous about it.Still looking forward to it though.

I hope some of the runners have some words of wisdom.

My first thought is that you might be coming down with something, which would totally suck, being your b-day and all. But I really don't know what else it might be...I mean one or two days off from running shouldn't make all that much of a difference to your endurance.

As for how much is too much-- listen to your body! Yea, challenge yourself, but if you hear the ol' body saying 'take it easy' don't push too far. There are loads of "walking" plans now to look at (you know the type walk 3 mins, run 1, etc....) Another idea would be to walk one day, jog the next. It all really depends on how much you can take ;-)

Sending along some ~feel good~ vibes in case there are some bugs around! Take Care, and enjoy the rest of YOUR day!

Thanks ladies.... Lori sounds like you faced something similar in the sense that it started fine but then got tiring...wonder if this is kind of a normal transition of the body...hope the body gets over it and starts behaving :)...anyway will just walk today (dont want to fall sick :) ... Have to be at a play school the whole day tomorrow so gotta have enough energy for that.

Hi Dee-
Trust your instinct. If your tired, thats one thing. But if you are feeling exhausted, which is what your are sounding like, listen to your body. Tired, you can get through with self motivation but if you are exhausted, give yourself a rest. Pushing yourself too hard will not help and might do more harm. Plus, resting your muscles every now and then 'refreshes' them and makes your workouts better afterwards.

And you might also want to try doing other exercises to 'shock' your muscles.

Happy Running X:)

I tried again last week to do a run/walk on Wed after having had a decent one a week ago Sunday. On Wed. I felt really crappy, tired, heavy legs, low energy.... I did a walk and weights on Thu and HKD class on Fri, lots of kicking that night, which I love, but was lacking a bit of energy.

Well, AF came a bit early, so I began to wonder if that's why I had such a bad week of running, no energy and aches and stuff.

My BF bought me an early birthday gift, a Timex runner's watch, this weekend. I think I'll go out tonight and try again now that AF is mostly under control. I'll have to see after work when I want to go. I'm interested to see how it goes now that PMS phase is over.

I think it's AF. I get really really lazy around that time too. If it's not that it's usually because I am cutting back too much on my calories. Or it could be that you overdid it. The first day we brought the eliptical home I got overzealous and was on it for 2 hours straight without having ever used one before. Then I couldn't do anything for the next 3 days because I was too sore. I have always heard to make yourself begin your workout and after 15 minutes if you don't feel like doing it to stop. Most people will get past a mental block the first 15 minutes and have a good workout unless your body really doesn't want you to do it.

Thanks, Miranda. I do a lot between walking and HKD and other things, but it still seemed that running was so much tougher. Experienced runners look like they're so light and could just run on and on. I wonder if I will ever feel that good during a run. I also wonder if they really feel that good, or if they just make it look good. Anyway, I think I might have to do something inside tonight, which is probably good for me, it has been raining/snowing again.

I know what you mean about those runners looking "light on their feet"....I feel like I'm plodding away.............behind them, lol!

I do look at some of them and know from the look on their faces that they're enjoying it. Some however look like they're struggling!! I for one want to enjoy it- when I do it!

Hope the rain eases off for you soon!
