hi, i'm new here, or a lurker rather. this might be kind of a weird question but my hands and feet are always cold. i saw a post that was in regards to eating and their hands or feet would get cold after they ate, mine isn't really that, they are just cold all the time. i have also noticed that even when i am exercising and sweating a lot, my body still feels cool and sort of clammy. i take a lot of spinning classes and if any of you have ever taken those, i'm sure you know, you are dripping sweat by the time you are done so i would find it kind of unusual that my body is still cold. anyway, no big deal, i just hate being cold, i have had my space heater on under my desk all morning and i'm still freezing!

I really don't know for sure but the first thought that came to mind for me was poor circulation. I have also heard and think I experience myself that it could be peri-menopausal??? I have

thanks for the suggestions. maybe i will try the socks at night thing. i'm a pretty heavy sleeper so it doesn't tend to keep me awake at night fortunately. i have thought about the poor circulation thing b/c my feet and hands kinda get a little numb at times too. i sure hope i'm not pre-menapausal (sp?), i'm only 32 ;)

This made me laugh:

"Working with vibrating equipment (like a jackhammer)"

As opposed to other types of vibrating equipment such as......

I ran an average temp of 94 degrees. My hands and feet were icy. Turns out I'm hypothyroid. It's easy enough to be tested. Treatment with meds or controlled by dietary changes. I use diet to control my symptoms. I've lost 30 lbs in the last year controlling my diet. Hands are a bit warmer, feet are fine now.

too funny about the jackhammer, or other vibrating equipment, lol.

i have been tested for having a hypothyroid problem. i have several other symptoms when it comes to this, i know they test the TSH level and something else which my doctor tested both. i have been told that these tests aren't always that accurate but i wouldn't know what else to do. i do have a pretty low body temperature. a friend of mine who has a hypothyroid problem told me to take my temp. one morning when i first woke up in the morning before getting out of bed and i'm thinking it was around 94 or 95 degrees. it's been a while ago since i did it so i can't remember what it was now.

if you have any other suggestions for avenues to pursue with this, please let me know.

I know that doctors can be deep in the old ways of thinkin sometimes when it comes to the results of the thyroid tests. I haven't been tested in a year myself because my doctor seems to think the "normal" range for my tests are not what I feel is normal for me. Thyroid seems to be about numbers to the doctors. It is about being able to get out of bed and make it through an entire day without feeling dead and depressed. It's about eating a normal amount of healthy foods, eliminating the junk and finally taking off that stubborn five pounds that nothing else seemed to help. If you would like to know a bit about foods to avoid let me know, I will make up a list for you. First thing though, avoid soy.

i would love any further information that you could give. i haven't talked to my friend in a while but i need to give her a call because she had pretty much guaranteed i had a thyroid problem with all the symptoms i had and said that she had a doctor to refer me to if mine said i didn't have a thyroid problem.

i am actually finally losing some weight but not much, it's due to spinning 4 times a week and one other day of cardio, weight training probably 3 days a week. i haven't been eating at night past 7 or 8 PM, i think the other night i ate a piece of grilled chicken at like 8PM but that's all i've had that late in the evening. i drink lots of water and even with all of the exercising, i am exhausted all the time, i can barely keep my eyes open past 9:30PM anymore and i get plenty of sleep.

anyway, it's nice to get to know you and i do appreciate anything you can give me. please keep in mind, i'm lactose intolerant as well ;) i still love cheese, i just try to stay away from it. i don't usually get anything with soy so that's good, i did have a soy chai tea a couple of weeks ago and can't remember how it affected me but i didn't drink much of it. i really mostly just drink water.

First of all try to eat a protein and a carb at every meal. Eat six small meals each day if at all possible. I know it's hard, but it makes a world of difference. Your protein should be about the size of the palm of your hand, and your carb should fit in the other hand while your hand is cupped. For me that is not much, I have small hands. You weight train, so that is good. Do you have a protein shake after for recovery? Never let yourself get too hungry. If you are eating too few calories you will not have any energy. Of course there are good and bad carbs as well as good and better proteins. Use only whole grain breads, stay away from the sugars, and eat as many fruits and vegetables as you feel you want. A potato for example should be no larger than your fist. And I average about a 3 oz. portion of chicken or fish. Fish is important, because of the omegas. I use a omega 3-6-9 blend supplement, and it helps me to stay focused and alert.
