What motivates you?

I thought it would be fun to share what motivates people to stay on track when your cravings or your laziness clearly want to derail you?

~Overall what motivates me is to have more energy for my kids. I have really been lacking energy since gaining the extra 30 pounds.

~A guilty motivation (and probably not a very positive one) is a neighbor of mine that teases me about putting on weight with my last child. She is stick thin with three kids of her own and for some reason she likes to talk about other women who have had a hard time taking off weight after kids. Maybe she is just really proud of herself..hmm? Her "teasing" really got to me last year and I would love nothing more than to show her I can get back down to a healthy size.

This is a great post! What motivates me?...

It's negative, but shopping at the mall and having nothing "look good on me" is a huge motivator for me. I loooove cute clothes.

Also, I used to train seriously in ballet. It's hard to explain, but the streingth, flexability, endurance, and most importantly the power - being able to go from still to a great leap effortlessly-(Think gymnast. I know alot of us pooh pooh ballet.), is what I miss most of all. It's who I truly am, and I've always been very proud of myself for it. I'd like to get that back.

And vanity. The idea of vacationing with my husband's family this summer and having everyone see me in a bathing suit morning noon and night. Especially when sitting next to a 41 year old who looks 20! lol

I am so happy to hear everyone's stories here. I have more in common with everyone than I thought and it's nice to know there are many in my same boat. I also would like my 30s to be better than my 20s. My 20s started good enough, I had been an overweight teen and in my early 20s started jogging. I eventually worked up to 2 hrs a day and went down to a size comfy size 4 from being up to size 14 when I was 16. I felt SO good. Even in my first pregnancy I was the type with skinny legs and arms and a cute little basketball tummy. No stretch marks and I wore bikinis the whole time. There is a picture of me 2 weeks before giving birth and I was actually smaller and weighed less (145) in that picture than I do right now.

I have to say the extra weight has effected my attitude. I am more depressed and really embarrassed of myself at times. It's hard when you have been so fit to see yourself slide down hill. I gained alot of weight in my second pregnancy up to 188. I feel the extra weight is more than just "weight" it's holding me back mood wise and self image wise. There are many moms who live around me who are very fit. Supposedly the Seattle area is the number one fitness city in the USA. You can really believe it by these other mothers. I would like to get back to how I was in my early 20s so that I can give my 30s a shot at being the best decade so far. With no more pregnancies in the future to throw me off I am hoping I can really keep on track now for the rest of my life.
