I need a workout buddy

Hi,
I have just started my "journey". I have to get off some weight before school starts back. I can't fit into any of my clothes and it is making me sick. Since I had my last child I have gone from a 10 to a tight 16! I do not have the money to buy bigger clothes nor should I settle for a 16! My last day of school was Fri. and I go back Aug 6. Not much time! I need guidence. I am 32 and have three kids. I thought I might buy a stationary bike and ride it during the View or Oprah. That is the only time I really have to myself. I need someone I can be accountable to. Someone that will send me a message or something and simply ask the question "How'd the workout go" My husband wouldn't remember and the kids could care less. If I know that someone else out there is expecting me to do it....or doing it also, like a workout buddy, it would help, and give me something to look forward to talk about that day. I know this must sound pathetic. I am also cutting the white flour and sugar out of my diet.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks so much for the advice. I didn't know what would be better the bike, or the eliptical? I have several good videos and I plan to use them about twice a week. Last summer, when I attempted to shed some pounds, all I used were videos. The reason that didn't work for me was that I had to stop too many times to answer a phone or talk to one of the children. I finally just got frustrated and stopped. I am doing the diet that Oprah does. I have signed the contracts and will do the amount of exercise that she recommends. I went to Wal-Mart and they were out of bikes and elipticals. I looked on their website and I can get one there and have it sent to my Wal-Mart. I plan on doing that today. What kind of exercise do you do and how often? Do you watch what you eat? I am 170 and I really want to get to 150 by August!!! Do you use handheld weights? If you do how much weight did you start out with? Thanks for being my workout buddy!

Welcome to the board Joanna! I have a friend who has a stationary bike, which she rides 5x's a week, during Oprah....and looks great- she's also very diligent with her diet!!

My choice of exercise is walking- or video's. You can check with your local library to see if they have any exercise tapes you can check out...

Good luck, and looking forward to posting with you-

Well, I exercise 6 days a week, I do either the elilptical or the cardio with Denise.. But I do change it up this way I don't get bored with it. I also started out with 2lb weights. I just wanted to tone up. But I have now went up to 5lbs to do a little strength training. I do have my kids home also, so sometimes I have had to send them to there room because they wouldn't leave me alone. It's been a challenge at times.

Yes, it will take a few days for me to get the elliptical. I use the firm videos, but I also have some easier ones for me to use now. I can only use the videos when my youngest is down for a nap. That is around 12:00 central time. I will use the elliptical when I get it either at 10:00 or 4:00. That is when the View or Oprah comes on. I live in Texas. What have you been eating to lose the weight that you have lost? I usually start the day with a piece of whole grain carbwatch bread and some peanut butter on it. For lunch I eat a whole wheat pita with meat in it. For dinner I have salmon or chicken. I snack on jello or sunflower seeds. I've just started so if you have any foods that you liked and were easy, please let me know!

I wish I could eat salads! I never have liked salads at all. Even the ones that are loaded with stuff. That is one reason why diets have been so hard for me. I am an extremely picky eater. I don't like most vegetables.

I have three kids. Andrew is 7, Natalee is 5, and Jonah is 17 months. What are your kids ages? What is your workout schedule? Are you Eastern time zone?
