QOTW: Change and How We Get There

Some of us have been riding the diet train since our early teens (and earlier) and are soooooo familiar with that "ohmigosh" moment that has us frantically cleaning our cupboards and running to the gym to "get fit once and for all" only to be thrown from the wagon on the first bump we hit.

My question is this: when you arrive at that "i-have-to-lose-weight-moment" is it usually because:

Somebody said something to you

You saw yourself in a mirror

You can't fit into your favorite skirt/pants/outfit

You had a particular birthday

You ended a relationship

Medical Scare/Checkup

Other (Explain)

Like for me, I've had moments where I'm pretty sure that my a$$ was casting it's shadow IN FRONT OF ME!!!

Nice to meet you! I have a 22 month old baby and feel like I'm just getting to the point where she's a little more independent. However, I did decide I need to try to get out of the house 2 to 3 times a week to work out at the rec. This lessons the interruptions and makes me feel like I'm getting a little somewhere. I've just added 2 days of "at home" work out time and not sure how it will turn out. I'm going to try for at leas 20 minutes to start with and see how far I can get.

My suggestions are to start out small. If you have to work out at home due to financial and/or child care issues or even just not enough time. See if you can squeeze in 20 minutes before the baby gets up or after you lie the baby down. Once you can squeeze in one or two days like that you be able to start finding other time and getting more excited about things. However, be flexible and open minded you will figure something out that works for you.

Another idea. At one point I was doing "get fit with three moves" that I had read about on this board. Went something like this. You do sit ups, push ups, and squats. You could start at whatever level you wanted so I just did as many as I could. So say I could do 10 sit ups I would do 10 sit ups a day (minimum of 3 days) for a week then the next week I'd do 11 sit ups for a week. Same would go for the squats and push ups. This gradually increased my fitness level as well as slowly squeezed in that time. Starting out didn't take me more than 15 minutes. I'd have to sit the baby in the walker or swing other wise she'd try to "help" ;o)

Also, I started with my eating habits. I felt like I had a little more control over that than my time even though that is rough too. Sometimes you need what is easy and easy unfortunately isn't always good for you.

Good luck! I'm sure if you're committed you'll find something that works for you.
