I did a 15 minute yoga vhs tape last night. It was basically stretching, breathing and relaxing.

Am I missing something here? How do you lose weight with yoga?

I don't think you lose that much weight with yoga and certainly 15 mintues of exercise do not burn too many calories. On the other hand, the breathing and stretching and relaxing would help you to get more in tune with with your body and to stop emotional eating and what not. So in a sense, yes.

Yoga isn't just stretching, breathing and relaxing! Some of the hardest workouts I've ever done have been in the form of power yoga or strength training yoga.

They help you lose weight in a few ways, first, once you get more into it, you can REALLY work up a sweat, second it builds and tones muscle and muscle uses more energy than fat, and it also helps keep you centered and away from emotional eating.

The full practice of yoga includes more than just exercise, it is a mind set, a way of eating, a way of living, a way of thinking and finally a way of exercise.

I was really into it for a while, and fell away, but now I am starting up again and I can already feel myself slipping back into the focused patterns of a yoga lifestyle. Go to Yogajournal.com to read more about it.

Point taken. I have done Bikram mytself before. But to answer the question of the original poster (who does 15 minutes of mostly stretching), even if it is not vigorous, the relaxation part is great for weight loss.
