Interesting compliment today

I had to share this, it was such a fascinating look into the way we think.

I was on the town beach, swimming with my kids and their friends. I came out of the water and stood near some friends who were talking about their bodies. Both of them are fairly fit, reasonably attractive and thin. They were saying how they wished they were more like me, because I'm not at all self conscious about my body. (Hearing that they think I'm not self conscious, made me a little ... well... self conscious!)

I am far from thin, and if I spend a lot of time looking in a mirror, I develop a long list of faults, like everyone else. When I'm on the beach with my kids, I don't worry about how I look, I want my kids to remember having fun playing in the water with me. I want them to learn to love the water and not fear it. Those things seem far more important than how I look in a bathing suit. (although, one of the boys said I have a "nice rack". Since he's 7, I asked him what that meant and he said he didn't know, but he heard his dad tell his mom I have a 'nice rack'.)

I just thought it was funny that these women who look the way I want to look, wish they were more like me too. Grass is always greener, I guess.

Karen, that is hilarious!!!! (About the little boy repeating the "nice rack" comment) I would love to not be self-conscious about my body or at least give the image that I'm not so that is a great compliment. It makes me wonder how many times am I fixing my suit at the pool or looking around to see if anyone else with my build is wearing a two piece suit instead of just playing with my kids? I am going to make an effort tomorrow to not think about my body or my weight and just enjoy my kids (small steps, right?).
