Three weeks in...

Hey everyone,
I've been going to the gym now for over three weeks, three or four nights a week. I am hoping to improve my overall health, get energy & stamina, and lose some weight. I am 5'3" and I weigh 145 lbs. I'm a size 12. I am not being too hard on myself, expecting overnight results, and I do realize that even though the scale says I am gaining, it is because I am toning up a bit and muscle weighs more than fat ;)
Does anyone else find it hard to keep motivated? What about real change? How long did it take before you looked in the mirror and said - yeah, ok. I can see it. Or was it more of "hey - I just walked for five miles and I'm not tired!"? Does anyone else have a hard time fitting it into their lives? Some days I feel like I am on fast-forward. Get up, shower, get dressed, commute to work, work work work, commute to the gym, work out, walk home, shower, gee, it's 8pm, fall asleep on the couch or attempt to respond to a few e-mails and then do it all over again in the morning????
On the up-side, I have lost 8lbs... What do you guys think about while working out? Do you have the "three more minutes three more minutes three more minutes - two more minutes two more minutes two more minutes" mantra that I have? I have a devil of a time keeping my mind occupied. I listen to music to help me keep a pace for running. I tried listening to a book on tape but it made me sleepy! :)
Good luck, everyone!

Hi there, and welcome! I'm just back from vacation so wanted to add a welcome in before answering your questions-

Does anyone else find it hard to keep motivated?
Yup! Like Miranda I will go through spurts of being diligent, but then again- like most- fall off the wagon every now and then!

How long did it take before you looked in the mirror and said - yeah, ok. I can see it. Or was it more of "hey - I just walked for five miles and I'm not tired!"?
It was probably about 2-3months before I actually saw and felt a real difference. It felt great- and the compliments I was getting really helped me stay on board!

Does anyone else have a hard time fitting it into their lives?
You know I really have no excuse as to finding that time....but I do. I'm a school teacher so although not every day but some days I'm so pooped out by the 'angels' all I want to do is kick back and relax for the evening. I find that if I get some sort of exercise in pretty much right after work is best for me.

What do you guys think about while working out?
How good it is for me :-)

Thanks for the quick replies! And for the welcome!

Miranda - I wish I could see results in my abs! LOL! Abs are my worst enemy... AND my Butt. My Butt is my abs backwards. :)

Islandgirl - I wish I had the ability to think about how good it is for me, but unfortunately, I keep thinking "One more minute one more minute..." LOL!

But I'm trying, DARN IT! Ha ha ha! I figure if I make it another month, I should be able to see some results by then. Otherwise, I am doing something wrong, and I better see a trainer again or something!

I'm sure you will see and feel results in a month-- keep going, don't give up, and above all have patience!
