How much are you supposed to work out?

I've finally managed to get my diet healthy & proper. Now I'm starting to work out at the gym but I don't know how much, what stuff etc. My gym has different classes each day & I've been trying them out to see which I like. Is it ok to work out a few times a week? Will that do enough? I'm trying to lose about 20 pounds but also get healthy.

Thanks.

If you have not worked out for a while, I would suggest start with 3 times a week for a couple weeks first. It is a great idea to try out different classes (and maybe ask the trainers at the gym which ones they recommend for your fitness level). When you are not taking classes (say if you only find two classes a week that you like), try doing some cardio for 30 minutes. After 2 to 4 weeks, try adding weight training which is great for losing weight, and no, 99% of the women will not bulk up. Over the course a few months, work your way up to 4 to 5 times a week for a hour or so.

Hi Ann, and welcome to the board!

I agree with the other posters. We have a saying that we use quite often around here "baby steps"....do what feels good- makes you happy. If 30mins is your goal start with that....and if you don't make it to 30 not to worry with some perseverance and patience you'll get there.

This is a fab board for support ;-)

Good Luck~
