I know some of you do not believe in weight loss pills, but I am wondering if anyone has had any success with phentermine / adipex. I have used it in the past with great results and I am thinking of using it again to jump start my weight loss. Please send me your success or failure stories, I would really like to hear the pro's and con's of your stories.

Hey, Thanks for responding,

first of all this is a prescribed medication that you get from your doctor. It has been the "only" weight loss pill that has been prescribed for over 40 years. With that said.... I used it a few years ago for about 3 months and lost 50 lbs and kept it off for 5 years. I had 2 children 18 months apart and have about 40 lbs to loose to get down to my pre weight. I am also diabetic and on insulin. Diet and excercise allows me to get off my insulin as long as I excercise 5 to 6 days a week. Being diabetic, I am hungery all the time. It is EXTREMELY hard to control what I eat when I have to eat all the time to keep my blood sugars in check. I even have to eat when I am not hungery. For example, I can have a decent dinner, one hour later my blood sugar drops because of a big dose of insulin, then I have to have a snack to bring it back up. Adding all those calories is horrific. When I start excercising, it is really touch and go with my insulin administration. It is hard to judge how much I need. It takes my body about 2 weeks to adjust to the excercise and completely get off the insulin. So this is where the phentermine comes in. This drug causes decreased appitite, so I really don't eat much, therefore not using insulin. And with my workouts, weight loss.

Since this medicine has worked for me, I really don't know why I am asking everyone else about their experiences with it. I am just curious to see if it has worked for anyone else.

Thanks for lending an ear

I agree with Kiervin. I took metabolife a long time ago when it was popular, and although I lost a lot quickly, it didn't stay off. I also might have done damage that will not become apparent for years to come.

This time around, I figure it's not a race, you know? :)

Kiervin, thanks once again for your reply.

It is very sad to say, but I do not have a doctor. I don't have insurance. I basically treat myself because I have been type II for 15 years and know the ropes real well. The last time I was on phentermine, I was being seen by a doctor, so following the course will be easy. I have started back at the gym 3 days a week. I am at 240 lbs right now. And very miserable. This is heavier than I was when I delivered my first DD. Pre-preg weight was 205. I was still overweight, but I felt so much better. I have a muscle bound frame, so I can carry the extra pounds and not look overweight. But this is rediculous. I will be ordering my pills next week. I will keep you in formed on my progress.

I'm very concerned to hear you don't have medical care.

I'd have to agree with Kiervin for you to try to find some affordable medical care to double check whether this medications is a good choice for you.
