What motivates you?

Hi all -
I've been reading a book that suggests listing your motivations, so you can refer back to them when you feel yourself slipping. The idea is that you have global motivations and target motivations. Global motivations are what get you keyed up in the first place, target motivations are what pull you through when it's 4:00 in the afternoon and you want the candy bar more than the long term goal.
Finding my global motivations was easy, but the target motivations are a little more elusive for me.
Global - Be healthy for my kids, wear smaller pants, get my yellow belt in kickboxing.
Target - feeling good about myself, succeeding at something so I know I can succeed at other things (confidence), keeping my aching joints from crippling me. (arthritis is creeping in, it runs in my family and it cripples you if you sit still long enough to let it.)
What works for you when you don't want to put on your exercise clothes or really want a candy bar?

Interesting way to look at the whole scheme Karen. Thanks for sharing this idea. I guess we've discussed what our 'motivation' is, but breaking it down to long and short term motivation is something new for discussion, and thought....

Global - Looking and feeling 'thinner' - Be more comfortable in a bathing suit

Target - Having that euphoric feeling after working out

Great idea Karen, although motivation is actually what I'm having some issues with right now!

Global - I want to be at my fittest, be healthy, live an active lifestyle and pass on those habits to my son

Target - Each workout puts me closer to developing a healthy habit,
