Stuff We Love: Diet Friendly Candy

by Sandra Ramani

We've put together a list of our favorite diet-friendly candies ‑- no, that's not an oxymoron ‑- that pack enough flavor to satisfy a craving, but come in small portions to help with any willpower issues. Whether low-carb, low-sugar, low-cal or just bite-sized, when eaten in the recommended portions, all will help tame a craving while still keeping diets on track.

Russell Stover Low-Carb/Low-Sugar Candy

Started in 1923 in the Denver kitchen of Clara and Russell Stover, it was this popular brand's yummy, boxed chocolates that inspired Forrest Gump. Always on the forefront of the industry, Stover launched a successful sugar-free line in 1998, and a low-carb selection, called "Net Carb," in 2003. Both feature Pecan Delights, a satisfying mix of chocolate, caramel and nuts. The low-sugar version looks and tastes like a Turtle, and is heavier on the nuts; one serving, which equals two pieces, has 150 calories, 17 grams of carbs and 0 grams of sugar. The Net Carb pieces are smaller ‑- similar to a mini Reese's Cup ‑- and have more caramel. Four of these morsels make up one serving, which has 180 calories, 22 grams of carbs and 0 grams of sugar.
