What the nutritionist told me

My meeting with the nutritionist was tonight. She was really good, very nice & had lots of stuff to tell me. Most of it kind of reiterated things I already know, but she did tell me a few things I didn't realize & she told me about the dash diet which is for folks who have high or borderline blood pressure. I'm going to do some more research on it myself but it sounds like it focuses on a healthy diet with very little processed or packaged food. She also gave me a 1,200 calorie plan that lists things out by servings. I think that will make it easier to follow the plan without getting bored eating the same thing every day.
One of her tips was when you buy a package of something, take it & break it down into servings as soon as you get home. That way if you want chips or cookies or whatever, you know how much you are eating instead of blindly reaching into the bag over & over.
She told me that peanut butter & nuts are not bad for me, they are full of good fat & that they are both full of protein.
She did say that I'm on the right track, I just need to keep a better track of my calories & plan my food for the week as opposed to day by day.
All in all I think it was a good thing & it will help me to be more focused in my efforts.

Ann, thanks for sharing how the visit with the nutritionist went; did she empty out your cupboards?? Sounds like she was impressed with how you are doing things already- which is wonderful. Her tips sound very doable, and realistic.
I'd love to hear more about the 'dash diet'......never heard of it before.
Good Luck-
Happy November!

She did not go through all my cupboards, but she did ask me about certain foods & then I would pull them out or show her where they were. I think the best thing she said was that "there are no bad foods, no off-limit foods" you just need to adjust your habits so you are eating the healthier foods most often & the unhealthy stuff in moderation.
I'm going to try & incorporate the dash diet principles & also keep better track of my daily calories & see if I can lose a few pounds.
Here's a few links about the dash diet:

Ann, thanks for posting those links I'm going to check them out. I have high blood pressure and have read about the dash diet but really couldn't find any specific info on it.
Also, the thing about breaking down foods is an excellent idea. I just started doing that myself because I'm suppose to cut back on salt but love Fritos. I noticed that a 1 oz. serving was plenty to satisfy and I don't need to eat the whole bag at one time. lol
I need to start doing the serving size too. I could eat a whole bag of fritos, doritos, whatever because I love salty, crunchy junk food! It'll be hard to cut back but I know it will be better for me. My Dr. told me I was pre-hypertensive so hopefully I can make some changes & not have to go on medication.

Hi Ann, sounds like it was a great investment to get her in, and that's great that she thinks your on the right track!
Happy November!

A while back I followed the meal plan on Kraftfoods.com - it was great, so easy, gives you the recipes and everything.
