I know that once one is a high ranking student, more is expected of her than is expected of the lower ranking beginners. However, lately I feel like I am making no progress. I feel like I was better as a green belt than I am now that I am red belt with one more stripe to go before I can test for black belt. Master Jamie has said, "You have come a long way..." and then there's always a "but...." There is another student of my same rank, and he and I both have been given specific things that we can improve on. I'm OK with that. I know I have a lot of work to do before black belt testing. I don't even want to test for last stripe yet because, well, I haven't exactly been there early and practicing like I was a few months ago.
SO says I have hit a wall and that everyone does. I don't get that feeling from my fellow red belts. I am rather discouraged right now. Did it seem to get a lot harder for you as you neared black belt?

Yes, Lori ~ there is a definite sign of discouragement at the 'almost black' levels!
You are correct in that I am more than a bit of a perfectionist; I want to be good. When the time comes that I am finally ready to test for black belt, I do want to be ready. I want to know that I am not just faking through the forms and techniques, and yes, one can sort of get away with a little of
Hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents. I'm just an observer of my daughters experience in TKD but it was the hardest time she has had in TKD between high red and black. A lot of the instructors were harder on her but not all. I have also heard other members of her TKD classes discuss this very thing.
