Keeping It Real
Before you start a self-improvement program, check in with the people who know you best.
Realistic goals can help make a diet and fitness plan even more effective. But research shows that many people don't have a very accurate picture of their current abilities. To ensure success, ask friends, family, and your doctor for an outside assessment of your current health and fitness status, and use this information to create an achievable plan.
RealAge Benefit: Having a good social support system of family and friends can make your RealAge up to 3.5 years younger.

Research shows that people tend to overestimate their abilities when it comes to striving toward positive changes. They also tend to underestimate the likelihood that they'll become ill or be affected by unfavorable behaviors, such as smoking or drinking in excess. No matter how well you think you're doing, be sure to get an honest reality check from people who know you well and who care about you. That way you're less likely to unconsciously sabotage your self-improvement efforts with unrealistic goals.
