Oh, this injury goes back about two years ago, two and a half maybe. I hurt it here at work when we used to uload and insert all of the newspapers and prep them for delivery by hand (one thing the new owners did right, now there are inserting machines and stuff). I carried too much or picked up a few bundles wrong or something. I hurt my left trap. muscle. I had physical therapy for it the next spring because it wasn't healing. The physical therapist said we had made progress but were only about half way there. It hasn't been the same since, so my teacher mentioned giving the acupuncture a try. I thought about it for a while, a pretty long while. I had seen her do it for one of the black belts, on his knee. It gave me the creeps. But I finally decided it was worth a try since I can't really afford to see the massage therapist except on special occasions (I sometimes treat myself after I do a 5k or for my birthday or something) and I can't take the time off to go to PT with the new owners.

It was a bit more painful than I thought it would be. The needles thing was quick, but the suction thing she used to draw the blood to the surface was painful. I guess there are different forms of acupuncture. She used small needles, like diabetics would use. She said the grandmaster uses real needles.

My shoulder is much more mobile so far this week. We'll see how it goes after I do a week of workouts and class. I don't know that I would want to do acupuncture again soon though.

...um, yea about that.......it's only really to appease ButterCup- he's the fan. Next week's game against the Colts should be interesting though. One of my girlfriends is a HUGE fan of theirs (we got her one of those life-size Peyton Mannings for her b-day)--- I'm sure there will be some snide remarks and such made on Sunday!!!!

Spent even more money.

Woo Hoo! Glad to see you have survived and resurfaced! Totally feel for you with such a huge move, however, sounds like you are nearing the end of the worst.

So glad to see you!!

I hadn't really heard of the "blood letting" aspect either. I was only aware of the needles inserted into certain acupoints on the skin. I looked into it a bit and found that this form seems to be rather rare in the United States. Most often the basic needles in the skin thing is used. The reports said that Japanese acupuncture needles barely contact the skin - would have been nice to have that kind instead.

This is a bit of the report I read about the "cupping" aspect of acupuncture.

This treatment has some relation to certain massage techniques, such as the rapid skin pinching along the back that is an important aspect of tuina (12).

Kiervin... you have just confirmed the reasons that I stay in my little condo that I'd rather pick up and move.
