Break the Soda Habit!

If you're used to drinking a can (or two or three) of regular soda a day, it can be hard to switch to water. But believe me, your body will thank you! Try these tips from fellow members for breaking the soda habit:



  • Don't keep an endless supply of soda in the fridge. Buy only enough to have one a day, and ration it out.
  • If you can't go cold turkey, switch to diet soda to help wean yourself. Diet drinks taste a lot better than they used to!
  • Replace soda with water or unsweetened iced tea for just a week — then have a can. You may be surprised to find you've lost the taste for it!
  • Stop drinking soda out of a can. Instead, fill a glass with ice, then add the soda. You'll drink less soda, and it will be easier to eventually wean yourself off it.
  • Calculate the calories. If you drink one soda a day for a year, that's 58,400 calories, or almost 17 pounds!

I probably drink about 3 cans of diet coke a day! My goal is to at least cut that down by one, starting tomorrow I'm going to switch to water for lunches!!! Anyone with me?

That is a great idea!


A couple of years ago I stopped drinking regular soft drinks, and now I drink only diet drinks.

You can do this! I'm already at one diet soda a day and not sure I'm willing to give up that 12 oz. of caffeine. However, I will say I won't buy the 20 oz. bottles anymore that does take away some of the water I drink because it takes longer to drink the 20 oz.

I'm not a huge pop drinker, but this is what I have found helps:


I buy mineral water (or any sparkling water) and mix it with juice at home.

You know, that's so true.....sometimes I just crave those bubbles!! I'm not a big sparkling water fan, but adding juice to it might just be the thing. Thanks for the idea Miranda :-)

You know when I was out shopping earlier I happened to remember to go and see what kind of Crystal Light they had, and low and behold there were the individual ones you mentioned earlier!! I got two kinds, ice tea and the lemonade one. I'm popping them in my bag tonight to bring to school in the morning, as that's where I have the hardest time drinking up!!

Adding: Have just poured myself a 20oz'er of water, and decided to try out the Crystal Light Iced Tea....yum! A lot sweeter than I imagined it would be, but good! (And boasts being 99% caffeine free!!)
