Hi! I just found this message board, and thought I'd see if anyone had any advice. I'm 34 years old and about 50 pounds overweight. I have NO energy-I'm tired from the time I get up to the time I go to bed (and SO sick of it!) I bought an exercise bike last week and have been doing it every day, but I can only last 4 minutes (the first day it was 2 minutes) at a time, so I've been doing it 4 or 5 times a day. Tonight I'm going to try for 5 minutes, until I make my way to (at least) 20 minutes. I've started counting calories, but I wondered if anyone had any diet tips (or ANY tips) on how I can stop feeling so tired and drained.
thanks!

Hi there and welcome. My tips are as follows:

Drink a lot of water as that will help with keeping the hunger at bay.

Don't get discouraged bu the little you can do, I jjust rejoined the gym a month and half ago and had to keep stopping to catch my breath, now I can do the whole calss no problem. So if you can only do 5 mintues thats fine, in a couple of weeks you will be at 20 no problem.

Buy low calorie snacks all the major companies are jumping on thios bandwagin, you can get chips ahoys and oreo crips for 100 calories a bag, same with pringles and popcorn so you do n't have to give up everything you like. If you are like ma nd have to have some cola day and I can't stad diet, go for the new 100 calories cokes.

Just keep a good attitude and when yo get discouraged whihc you will come to the boards. All the people here are great they have helped me when I get down in the dumps.

I just had to post. Your title made me smile. lol. Mostly because that's how I'm feeling lately.

As for advice on food, besides counting calories, I'd also take into account what type of foods you're eating. Because, let's be real, you could eat a salad then a burger and still come up with little amount of calories. lol. I'm not sure what foods, but I'd find foods that are more healthier, only because I know junk food tend to make you sluggish. I noticed when I start eating bad, I get more sluggish. And more bloated. lol.

I'm not good with the food part, so I hope you get better answers. But good luck with the bike. The fact that you're doing anything is a GREAT start.

Hi, and welcome to the 30's board!

The ladies before me have given some great suggestions. I'll add in mine (though some may be repeating what the others have said ;-)

  • Increase your water intake, even if you have to add something to flavor it

  • Great going on the bike (I too have just started using one, and it took me a while to work up to 15mins....but I did it, you can too) Keep going on it, and keep optimistic!

  • Yes, do try going to www.fitday.com to track your food intake

  • Make sure your sleeping routine is not changing drastically from day to day, try to keep it similar, all week!

  • Make sure you have *healthy* snacks on hand for those munchy times

I look forward to getting to know you~

Hi-I am new to the boards as well but definitely not new to dieting. :) I wanted to write you, as one thought came to my mind as I read your post. Everyone has given you great advice and wonderful tips to start down that road to a healthy you. But I wanted to mention something. Lack of exercise and eating unhealthy can lead to fatigue and that may well be what is going on but there are also medical conditions that can do this as well. If you haven't had a check-up lately, it may be time to visit your friendly doctor and make sure all is ok. You never know, they may also have some great tips to help you out and get you motivated as well. Otherwise, I just want to encourage you to continue working out. You will slowly be able to increase your time. It will happen and soon you'll be feeling great.

Hi! Nice to meet you. Feel like I'm chiming in a little bit late but I know those refined carbs make me feel like a lump and that's about all I have to add right now. Plus the longer you exercise you will notice your energy level pick up. I think sometimes our bodies like to make it extra hard on us but once it knows we are serious it usually get's with the program.

WELCOME!

I get like that when I'm stressed, or when my schedule is so full that I can't stop.... then I feel sluggish.

Good for you for starting on your bike :)... that is great!

thanks for all the welcomes and advice!!
I've got pms this week-so I've been craving the sugar (in between crying spells and the angry outburst! seems the older I get the worse it gets!)
I haven't been drinking water like I should
well, I'm going to go take a hot bath-one of my favorite activities!
