Hi! I just found this message board, and thought I'd see if anyone had any advice. I'm 34 years old and about 50 pounds overweight. I have NO energy-I'm tired from the time I get up to the time I go to bed (and SO sick of it!) I bought an exercise bike last week and have been doing it every day, but I can only last 4 minutes (the first day it was 2 minutes) at a time, so I've been doing it 4 or 5 times a day. Tonight I'm going to try for 5 minutes, until I make my way to (at least) 20 minutes. I've started counting calories, but I wondered if anyone had any diet tips (or ANY tips) on how I can stop feeling so tired and drained.
thanks!

I find the stress eating is a big problem for me. Right now,(besides the pms) my mom (who has cancer) is staying with us (my son and I)- and I just went back to college (it's awful to have all those young kids passing you by as you try to pretend you're NOT out of breath....which is why I hit the restrooms as soon as I get inside the building, so I can rest before class!!) and I am behind in all my classes.
but enough of my pity party!!
now where's the chocolate? (just joking-there's none in the house)

You sound like me! THis is what I did: start on the bike at an easy level at a low RPM for 20 minutes. Do that for one week. Trust me, it gets easier. On 1/1/06 when I got back on my bike, I rode for 5 minutes and I was sure my heart would burst. I was soaked in sweat and felt like a load.

Almost 8 weeks later I can ride the bike for 60 minutes at a moderate RPM (still on a flat surface) with NO problem.

REAL food gives you energy. Fresh fruit, steamed veggies, cheese, raw veggies, yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, etc. Try to prepare dinner from "scratch" as much as possible. Learn to cook homemade soups and freeze portions for later. Homemade soup is WAY better tasting that canned.

OMG!

Ok, first of all, how is your excersise bike treating you? Have you bumped up your minutes yet? How are you feeling overall?

I was thinking about you today. I got up on that beautiful Stair Climber I finally got built and I worked out. I went on and on for what a was SURE was about an hour....turned out to be closer to about 15 minutes. The thing kicked my A$$! I seriously feel so mixed right now...half over joyed that I made it through alive, and half nervous that my legs may never work right again! I will persevere, I wll gain strength, stamina and confidence, but in the meantime, this really takes some getting used to!

Just wanted to check in with you and see how the bike was working out...or how the bike was working YOU out! LOL

Let me know!

: )

Mia, I know there is a stair climber machine at the gym that has a continually moving set of stairs, and I think I started off at 5 minutes and even now I'm only up to 10 or 12 minutes!! LOL
