What keeps you motivated?

When we all come from different lives, with different interests, and varied levels of support in our lives, I was wondering what keeps you ladies all motivated to make healthy choices in your lives? Is it your husband, your wardrobe, an upcoming event or occasion? If you have nothing that really is a constant motivator, what WOULD motivate you?

: )

Me its two upcoming events, my first real vacation(mexico) and my daughter's quincenera. Also I hate my wardrobe right now I want to be able to shop for cute clingy stuff not "old lady" loose blouses and "old lady jeans"

My motivation has been my trainer. Having someone expecting me to show up makes me go. I only have a few sessions left and more aren't in my budget so I don't know what I'll do. I'm pretty good about doing cardio, because I like to listen to music and think during that time, but I'm terrible about resistance training. I find it rather intimidating by myself.

As for my diet, I'm working with my Dad on that. He and I both have heart problems and we've just decided that together we need to work to clean up our diets, get our weight under control and just be healthier. He won't go to the gym with me - he's even more intimidated by it than I am - but he does help me keep my diet in perspective.

My long term future keeps me motivated.

Heart disease and high blood pressure are so dominant on my mom's side of the family. And now dad is dealing with some heart issues. Both of my parents had to have heart caths done last year. Mom's went better than was expected, but her blood pressure is too high, to the point that her doctor doesn't want her to have the knee surgery she wants to have until it is better controlled. My dad's heart cath revealed he had some blockage, which is being treated with meds currently. Grandma, mom's mother, had her first heart attack when she was in her late 60's. She was 84 when she passed, but she was in and out of the hospital. My mom's only brother passed away the same year as grandma after a long battle with his weight and heart disease. He was in his sixties. He had tried bariatric surgery, but died not even a week after the surgery from complications.

I've always been a tom boy and have liked sports and stuff, but after I turned 30, I decided I needed to take my health more seriously and started to learn about exercise and eating well. I try hard to keep up with it.

I have small things going on throughout the year to keep me on track. Hap Ki Do helps, three times a week. I am also working toward the May 5k and perhaps one in September to keep me running after the May event.

My wedding is a pretty big motivation to do some weights work. My dress will definitely reveal my arms and back. Everyone wants to look good in her wedding dress. It is in my mind when I'm working out right now. And it helps me stay on track with the eating too.

Ultimately, I want to be in my 60's, 70's and 80's and not be in and out of the hospital and able to get around pretty well. That's what I have to keep in mind long term.

That is the million $$$ question!

I guess seeing other peoples accomplishments and struggles is very motivational for me. Also, I want to feel good and feel good about the way I look. I want to be confident and I think my physical health is a huge part of that.

Well, even though I haven't lost a whole lot of weight yet, I must say that the way I feel in my clothes now feels GREAT!!!! I love going in my closet and not having to worry about stretching out my shirts before pulling them on.....not worrying if my pants will zip up......being able to tie my shoes without letting out a tiny grunt when I bend down. I try to take notice of the little changes and appreciate each one. Like, when I get up from our oh-so-saggy couch, I don't have to put my hands down and give myself a boost. I just stand up. I feel more energetic and can accomplish so much more in so much less time coz I move faster. And of course, the compliments and "the looks". Those are the ultimate motivators. My 6 year old told me the other day that he could tell I wasn't fat anymore which was so sweet in his own way. :) I also always try to remember that I don't want to be the fat mommy picking up my kids at school. I don't want my kids to ever be embarassed by my size.

I have thin and fat pictures in an envelope. I look at them at least once a week to keep me on track to losing weight.

...I loved reading everyone's answers!

My original motivation was for my friends wedding (2 years ago)....started off slowly in November 2002 with changing my eating habits, and adding a LOT of water! In January '03
