I'm new to this board. Found it last night after reading lots. I liked the fact that you all are an intelligent group (readers! Love the book review sites!) facing the same 30 something issues I am.
So here's my confessional. I've been trying to lose the same 10-15 lbs for about 5 years. I had a baby about a year ago (sweet Sophie). Before pregnancy I was around 147, now I'm about 152. (I'm 5' 7") Have dropped as low as 146 after baby, but I haven't committed longterm, and keep inching back up.
I know how to lose weight. I'm 31, and 10 years ago I weighed 215 lbs (after college). I tackled the problem myself, with exercise and writing down what I ate, aiming for 1500-1800 cals a day. In a year and a half I lost 90 lbs. My lowest weight was 125, but over the first couple years I inched back up to a more comfortable 130-135 and kept at that weight for a few years. When I started teaching about 6 years ago, I slowed down on exercise and got more lax with my food choices and gained another 10 pounds. I have a habit of starting these resolutions in my journal, and I can look back to entries 3 or 4 years ago and see the same starting weight and the same goals, and know that I didn't follow through. It's disheartening.
I'm here to get some support, and make myself accountable. I'm a teacher, and by nature I do better myself when helping others, so I'm hoping this time it will be different.
The main area where I can make improvements is in what I eat. I already exercise 3-4 times a week and I can definitely work harder on that, but I tend to use the fact that I exercise as license to eat. I also have a husband who loves to bring treats into the house. I have come to the point where I think I have to accept that he's not going to change. I need to change my own behaviors not his. I tend to join him in late night snacking and that's where a lot of my extra calories come from.
So, to wrap up this long post. My goals are:
1. Track what I eat and aim for 1600-1800 cals a day
2. Work out AT LEAST 4 times a week
3. Do strength training AT LEAST twice a week.
I will do this for one month and reassess.

Thoughts? Can anyone relate?

Welcome to the board!

Sounds like you have a reasonable plan for yourself in mind (and Congratulations on your weight loss in the past!!).

I think you will see a few of us can relate to your thoughts, struggles and hopes. The ladies here are wonderful, which, apparently, you know already ;-)

Looking forward to seeing you around~

Sounds like you got a plan. I can totally relate to that 10 - 15 lbs. I have the same thing going on. Hard to lose that last 10 lbs then I will inch my way back and have to start all over again.

Good luck! Can't wait to hear all that you have to add to the board!
