Hi, ladies! Passed some exercise milestones this last weekend and had to brag a little. First, I successfully did an exercise on one of my pilates tapes that I thought I would never be able to do. It's on my Gaiam Balance Ball for weightloss dvd. You lay flat on the floor with your feet and calves on the ball, legs straight and basically pull yourself up to sitting (with feet still elevated) using only your abs. Last wednesday I tried it and still only my shoulders came off the ground and I did a little crunch instead of a full sit up. Not too discouraged, I just giggled about it. Saturday I did the same dvd and I'll be darned if I didn't sit right up!! Smooth and easy, all 5 reps. I was sooooo happy.
The next milestone was jogging for 20 minutes straight. I do treadmill 45-60min/day and about 3 days a week I jog some of that. I HATE running, but if I can burn the same amount of calories in less time, I'm willing. Anyway, I was running 20 minutes in November but I came down with a whopper of a case of bronchitis and pneumonia in early December and its taken me this long to get back up to speed. Yay
Unfortunately my ankle's busted. I twisted my left last Thursday, not too bad though, and was ok for treadmill by saturday. Now my right is killing me for some reason I can't figure out. So no treadmill for me today. I'll be carefully doing pilates instead. No dog pose for me today. Does anybody else ever feel dirty when they say 'dog pose'? (heehee)
My other big failure last week was my diet. OMG it was attrocious. Pizza, tacos, fried chicken, cake, popcorn (buttered, thankya very much), candy, cookies, brownies, cheesecurls, starbucks, godiva, and on and on! I don't know what happened! Anyway, no scales for me this week. And I will control what I put in my mouth this week.
Erin

Big congrats on reaching the exercise milestones!!
Erin, way to go on hitting those exercise milestones!!
Funny how some weeks just work out that way!
Super news about reaching those mini goals (the complete sit up, and the 20min jog) :-)
A thought on why your right ankle is a little sore, is that prehaps over the weekend you were compensating having hurt the other one. I know I did this with my shoulders, and each time I go for a massage the therapist tells me that the one I don't think has the 'problems' is the one that's most tight. In any case, yea, take it easy on *both* feet today....and hopefully you'll be more balanced tomorrow ;-)

Every achievement starts with a little legwork!

Congrats on your running...I hate running as well. Seriously, I think I'll only run if Im being chased with something sharp. LOL
I wonder if the ankle issue is due partially to insufficient support in your shoes? Is your arch fully supported, are you concious of your posture, and landing when your feet come down? Hope you're feeling better, but HATS OFF TO YOU for your success, thats really awesome!
: )

Hi, Mia. I think you and Islandgirl are both right about the ankle. I probably jumped back on the treadmill too soon after I twisted the ankle. You should have seen me fall on Thursday! It would have been funny if it hadn't hurt so bad. I was at the mall and had to run out to the parking garage to get a return I forgot to take in with me, and I had my 5 yr old twins with me. Instead of walking them out through the deathtrap of a parking garage I decided to leave them inside the doors where I could see them and walk to the van to get the bag. I was parked close enough I could see them the whole time. Anyway, I was walking to the van, looking over my shoulder the whole time at the twins, and my left foot hit a crevis in the concrete and down I went. Oh man! Fortunately I wasn't squished by oncoming traffic! Ha!
Also my tennys are worn out. They're rubbing a spot on the back of one of my heals. I bought a new pair, and they were great for about 2 weeks, until they started rubbing a spot on top of my big toe. So I'm back to pair #1 with thicker socks until I have a chance to return pair #2. Oh, the sorrow of having wide feet!
I did jump on the ball today (not litterally), but avoided the treadmill. I'm going to try to stay off it for a few days. And so far so good with my daily food. I will not have left over fried chicken for dinner. Now those giant chocolate chunk cookies I made... We'll have to see!
Thanks for the support!
Erin
Erin stop with the food already!!!!
Oh, that accident with the bar sounds so much like something I'd do! Once, when I was shutting the trunk door of the van, I pulled it down right on the top of my head, full force. What the heck? How do you not realize your head's in the way? Oh, well. I had quite a headache, but on an upnote, I didn't lose consciousness! I've always got bruises that I can't quite remember how I came to have. Such a klutz, I am.
I think I have a stress fracture just below my ankle, on the outside. All evidence points to this. And it just stands to reason; bad shoes, overworking my body, resuming exercise too soon after injury. I'm such a nerd. I'll give it a couple of days to feel better and if it doesn't, I'll be having an x-ray. So meanwhile, I'll be sitting with my feet up, or limping around the house. No treadmill for me for at least a week, and maybe, if my luck is as bad as I think it is, for months.
Man, I really have to watch my diet now! (I did have that monster chunk cookie after my salad last night, by the way)
