Last week we had some posts on how we treat ourselves, and what we can do to enrich our lives for ourselves apart from our roles as girlfriends, wives, moms, aunts, etc.

How much time (% of the day or week) do you spend doing things that are just for you?

Well...until I started working out a couple of weeks ago, I would have to say less than 1% per week.

I figured it out and during the week about 8% of my time is spent on stuff that is just for me, 20% is family related, and the rest is work and sleep.

I do everything in the house except mow the lawn and take out the trash. Aside from in the morning before they get up and at night after they go to bed, I am always with the kids. I usually put on hair and face masks while doing housework and I read at night when they go to bed. Even when I walk around the block the kids are with me and when I excersise I usually put something on tv for the kids to watch and do it in the family room. I use to work out while my dd was at preschool and my ds taking a nap but now he doesn't nap anymore. I maybe get out of the house once a month without the kids to window shop in the mall by myself or get my haircut. Now that you asked, I guess I *don't* have a lot of personal time. I never noticed before! My dh suggested I could get a gym membership and workout in the evening. I feel busiest in the evening and prefer working out during the day so I don't know if I will do it. I love swimming though so I might!

How much time (% of the day or week) do you spend doing things that are just for you? Since I'm not a parent or a spouse, yet, I can pretty much do what I want. The time that I spend doing things that are just for me, as far as for my benefit or enjoyment is about two hours a day - my workout is one hour that is my time, and I try to spend a little time just relaxing (either watching the Food Network or something else not stressful or listening to CDs) in the evening after things are done.

How much time (% of the day or week) do you spend doing things for others like driving to lessons, or doing chores or jobs that others could help you with? Again, my house is my place, but as I get move more and more into SO's home, I a starting to do things there for him. I spend some of the time that I'm there helping him with laundry (especially if I don't have much to do) and helping him get the house back in order after the kids (young adults) have trashed it. I think that I'll be spending a lot of time doing stuff for the household once I live there. I spend the typical 40 hours at work, but, as Steffy said, that is for the money I need and want.

Other than working at school most of the time I have is mine. No kids, no dh, no boyfriend.....sounds a little pathetic actually ;-)

Well although above I said I have all that time for me I do actually spend a good bit of my time doing things for others. Whether it's picking BC up to go to work, or work on something for my classroom, I'd say I spend about 40% of my free time doing things for others.

Oh, and I almost forgot about the time I spend here....pretty much my morning before school, my lunch break and any time I can 'spare' in the evening.

Upon reflection.....doesn't leave much time for much else, LOL....

I just wanted to clarify a few things, a few of you have said that you spend time at work which is for YOU, and I think what I wanted to get at was how much time do we spend on ourselves doing things that make us happier, or more relaxed, or just more content.

I like that analogy to the cordless phone Miranda-- something for us to really think about!
