Hi everyone-
I really enjoy this board. My name is Jen and though I've visited this site I have finally joined it.
I am a widow with three teen agers at home. Two girls ages 17 & 14 and a son 13. We love doing stuff together. Recently we've joined a gym together. But let me back track a little and tell you about my weight struggles.
I had been generally petite weighing all of about 115 on average most of my life. After my son was born I got into weight lifting. I loved it and many told me that I should have competed. Nothin doin though. Did it just to stay fit.
My husband passed in '01 and along with a bad car accident just a couple of years prior the weight started coming on. I now average around 175. I have become completely disgusted with myself.
Finally after about 5 years of yo-yo dieting (which I've read is more harmful for you than being consistantly over weight) I had decided this year that enough is enough.
I'm hoping that through these boards I will find the support and encouragement to succeed in not just taking the weight off but leaving it off!
As I mentioned me and my three kids just joined a gym. Now they are all very tiny. My son is actually under weight and trying to strengthen for baseball and football. My older daughter is about 5 1/2 ft tall and 113 lbs and has a very muscular body so she is doing some light weight lifting just to keep tone. My other daughter is all arms and legs. Very very thin at about 5 ft 5 102 lbz. She is trying to gain balance and strength for cheer leading.
I decided to teach my kids how to maintain a healthy physique and healthy eating BEFORE they get out of shape. Also I was torn between being at work all day and sacrificing the only time in the evening together to go to the gym so the answer was join all of us.
I look forward to getting to know all you "regulars" and hope that my busy day will permit me to become a "regular" myself.
Everythang is Everythang

Hi Jen, nice to meet you! Sounds like you have some great kids and joining the gym together should be a great way to squeeze in some family time as well as benefit all of you.
I find this board helps me stay on track with the great women who come here to offer advice and support. I look forward to hearing more about your gym adventures with the kids. Trying to get my 2 teenage girls in a work out routine but I think they might be a bit harder to motivate than yours seem to be. lol

Hi thanks so much for the warm welcome. Yes my girls are not always quite into it. But they go and they go because they realize that the only other choice is to stay home by themselves and eat junk and watch the idiot box or chat on the other idiot box.
They also go to please me...and honestly there is nothing wrong with that so long as the end product is positive.
Do you belong to a gym currently or do you work out on your own??

We do have a family membership to the rec. center. I use it more than anyone but I purchased a treadmill around x-mas and have been working out at home more often. Besides the treadmill I use some yoga DVDs and a program called Slim in 6. The kids go through fits and starts where they do these with me but usually only if the mood strikes them. Right now I'm enjoying working out at home because the kids have busy schedules and my youngest is 2 and just is working well right now. Trying to convince myself to take a yoga class and hopefully will get more active outdoors once the warmer weather arrives.

Welcome to the board Jen!
What a great deal to get a membership for all your kids!
Adding my welcome to our *FAB* board Jen ;-)
That's so cool that you all joined the gym, you'll have to keep us updated on how you all fair going. Will you go together, or a different times? In any case, I think it's great.
Good Luck, and see you around-
Every achievement starts with a little legwork!
