Jen posted something earlier about how friends can influence the way you view yourself in terms of weight or body image by how they act and what they do.

So who have been the major influences on how you view your body?

I think probably my mom and grandmother.

So who have been the major influences on how you view your body? My mother has been the biggest influence by far. She has always been much thinner than I and has never been afraid to criticize my weight. While I was growing up she was 5'7" and about 105-110 pounds. Occassionally she might have slipped up to 115 but never more. I remember one occasion when I was 15...I was 5'6" and about 120-123. She said she wanted to share clothes with me but I was too fat. Nice. After I had my boys I could never get below 135 which I was completely fine with. My mother though would criticize me non stop about my weight. I haven't seen her in about 5 1/2 years. She would seriously flip out if she saw how much weight I gained. I was talking to her the other day and she was going on and on about how my cousin had put weight on. I feel that most, if not all, of my body insecurities ome from my mother.

Who has been the greatest support in terms of your current efforts? Hmm, no one really...myself I guess.

So who have been the major influences on how you view your body? Wow, that's a tough one. There was never much discussion about body image in my family.

Well, I really hate to give him credit for ANYTHING, but I have to say that C was pretty good for my body confidence.

My Mom has been my biggest influence, and like Crystal, not in the most positive of ways either. Now I know most of the time she wasn't saying things maliciously (all for the good of my own health, and all)....but her approach was hurtful on most occasions. And then she gives me all these "treats" etc...Mixed messages?

My friends!! (And many of them are either"skinny minnies" or have 'good metabolism'.)

Who do you still have some issues with around food, exercise or your overall health and body image?

Food: my Mom
Exercise: Me- blame myself for lack of doing any....
Overall Health: Way of living, down in the islands our 'social time' is at the bar!
Body Image: Society in general

Thought provoking questions Miranda, thanks ;-)

"people give me a hard time because I work out and I'm *skinny*.......skinny does not equal fit or healthy and I want both"

So who have been the major influences on how you view your body? probably myself and society in general. i was always thin or average as a kid and young adult. i STILL look at myself and think i'm small, when i'm not. i have a very whacked view of what i look like. lol. i guess, society has made me feel fat, even when i was 100lbs i thought i was fat. how scary is that? and now that i truly am overweight, if my old self saw me, it'd think i was

Well, the person that motivates me the most is my daughter who is 6 and who I have handed down my bad eating habits to. Now I am teaching myself and her that food is not an emotional crutch.

She is also the person who opened my eyes to what I was doing before. She confronted me as if I were on "Intervention". Asked me if I ever wanted to look pretty in a dress, that I was getting fat! I just looked at her for a long time while she looked back at me as if to dare I say something back.

My husband supports me but also hinders me mentally in terms of telling me what he thinks I should do to lose weight, as if I didn't know already, I'm a freakin expert compared to him. He has never had a weight problem! That just pisses me off! Anyway he is supportive as well and I am grateful.
