Where to start?

Hi there. Not sure if I'm on the right message board here or not. If I'm not let me know and point me to the right one. First time on here. I'm 34 and have two teenagers. I've never been on a diet or really done any real exercise except for walking once in awhile. I've just realised before xmas that I'm starting to put on weight. I think I'd like to lose about 20 lbs. I really don't know where to start with exercise or healthy eating. I know no junk food.....lol My biggest problem is breakfast. Not knowing any lowfat breakfast.
If anyone has any ideas or websites I'd be so happy. I have lots of time to exercise, but don't know where to start.
Thank you
Like I said, if I'm in the wrong message board, let me know.

Hi! I think you are at the right board. :o) I'm glad you are joining us... I am 31 and have 3 kids but none even close to teenage years yet (whew!), lol. Right now I have a goal of losing 15 pounds, so we are similar in weight loss needs... and I've never really been good at exercising so that is another goal we have in common! I just started Monday of this week.

About the lowfat breakfast ideas... I can share some of my favorite healthy breakfasts:

oatmeal.... not instant, not quick... but the "real" stuff (regular rolled oats). Cook it like directed but a couple minutes before its done, add some real maple syrup to it. I do 1 tablespoon per 1/4 cup uncooked oats added. For example, I usually make 2 servings (one for me, one for hubby)... I put 1 cup water in a pot and add 1/2 cup rolled oats and a pinch of salt...wait for it to boil and I turn it down to low...wait a couple minutes and then add 2 tablespoons real maple syrup and let it cook a few minutes more until the thickness I like. Then I put 1/2 cup of the cooked oatmeal in a bowl....Then I add a sprinkle of raisins (like 8 or so), and a sprinkle of raw sunflower seeds (just

Welcome.

I see you got some breakfast ideas already. Oatmeal is very good for breakfast, although I never get up early enough

Thank you very much for your message. It sounds like you and I have a little in common. My fav. drink is earl grey!!BLACK. I don't like sugar in it at all. Not too excited over the flavored tea either. But my biggest thing is I think I drink too much tea. I have two in the morning. Then two in the afternoon and two after supper. If I don't have any in the morning again, headaches appear....lol I'm also addicted to Tim Hortons, half hot chocolate and coffee. I've tried to stop drinking them, but I crave it...lol
I will try making the oatmeal for breakfast. I used to eat that every morning, but got lazy.
Yes I started my family quite young. My daughter is 16 and son 13. Enjoy your family at a young age. It starts to get quite stressful in the teenage years.
I have to cut down on my bread too. I hear that its quite fattening. I love bread!! I do eat multigrain or wholewheat. But I could live on that.
Thank you again.

Thank you for your advice I appreciate it.
Yes I know I need to cut back on my tea :( I think I can cut out Tim Hortons coffee:( but not my tea. I'm gonna try and cut back and like you said mabe try some decaf tea also. I don't drink anything else, other than water. I used to drink so much more water in the past, but don't anymore for some reason. I don't like pop at all, never have. And really don't drink alot of juice either. Mabe 2-3 glasses a month. And DO NOT LIKE MILK.
I only have two teens, but feels like three with my dh.....lol mind you he's like a two year old sometimes ...lol He's quite over weight, but not interested in doing anything about it. He says he's happy the way he is until he has chest pains, then he smartens up alittle.
I think I need to get a routine going when it comes to eating breakfast and lunch. It might be a little easier.
