falling off the wagon

Two weeks ago I was working out 4-6 days a week. I was only binging every two weeks instead of daily. Then we had houseguests........

We had family in from out of town and they stayed in the room that houses my gym equipment. So that was my first excuse for not working out. Not like they were here every minute of every day. There were hours at a time the room was vacant, if messy.

Then we had a niece move in. She is staying in that same room. But she has a job so she is only here to sleep. And yet I am using that as yet another reason not to workout. Because she is sleeping during the time I used to work out.

The final straw was some nasty virus that put my in bed for 5 days. I did move my bike into my bedroom but it has become a coat rack. I have ridden that bike only once in two weeks and I have not lifted any weights.

i am wondering if anyone here has also fallen off the wagon and how you got back on. Oh, one more thing. Since this all started I am binging almost every other day. Not good. I feel like such a slacker but that doesn't seem to be motivating me. Like I am talking a good game but it is all talk. I need my action back....... any suggestions?

Family meeting would be wonderful. Only my neice is in her early 20's and keeps hours that I am too busy for. Staying out til early morning and sleeping late. I am thinking I will just have to write a note.

On the good side. She is employed and has been with the same company for several years. So she is not entirely without direction. She is hoping to be out within the month. I figure I will stack her stuff and put a note reminding her that I need to get to my machine.

I think my biggest issue is myself. It is so easy to use her as an excuse not to work out. Blame her for my actions. I do have the bike I can get to whenever I want. And the directions never said that if I did not work out on the bowflex I could not ride the bike. That is something that came from me.

Funny how I am quick to jump on the first excuse to avoid working out.

Don't start me on the whole smoking thing. I am still a smoker, I have tried quitting and failed, and will try again. I resent people harping on me about the dangers of smoking. It is really hard to take a health lecture from someone whose idea of exercise is walking to the fridge. Eats only prepackaged foods. Can't name 5 veggies or 5 fruits. And is teaching those same eating habits to their children. My kids hear from school and home that smoking is bad. They have watched me try and quit. But no one is warning them about the dangers of a bad diet, or lack of exercise. I am the only one. Sorry, just an issue I have been struggling with lately as I have realized I passed on some of my bad eating habits. And a friend that rides me about smoking while feeding her child doritos and cookies for lunch.

I know what you mean about having the pot calling the kettle black to some degree - smoking AND unhealthy eating are both horrible habits.

I think I tried quitting smoking about 5 or 6 times before it really took, and I had just gotten to the point where smoking really wasn't something I wanted to do anymore - it wasn't that anyone talked me into it.

To keep from binging, you should get all the CRAP out of the house. This way, the worst you can binge on is fruits, nuts and maybe some granola bars.

I know how you feel. My binges used to be a BOX of Devil Dogs (devils food cake and cream) with a Whopper and large fries (from Burger King) and a 2 liter of Diet Coke. So now I keep the crap out of the house and do not eat any fast food except Subway.

Exercise is a lifetime commitment. I know it's easy to say to hell with it, I'm too busy or too tired, or I have guests, blah, blah, blah. Anytime we have guests, I make it a point to get up early and work out, even if I have to put the VCR in our bedroom and do a work out video while hubby sleeps. Or, go for an early walk around the neighborhood.

It's easier to lose weight once you commit to making a LIFESTYLE change. Because in order to keep off the weight, you'll need to continue to exercise and eat healthy the rest of your life.
