Hi. I'm 33, 5'6, 160lbs and 16 weeks pregnant with #4. (So far I've gained 20lbs! ACK!) Anyway, I'm average build and weight and have exercised off and on all my life. I LOVE exercise and "know" how to eat right but often find myself over eating at meals or eating sugary foods for snacks (I know, I know :o) Anyway.... my question is this... Last summer when I wasn't pregnant, I was working out 5-6 times a week, and eating extremely well, yet I seemed to be very tired in the mornings, until sometime in the afternoon when I'd get some energy. And it's happening again now that I'm working out regularly again. I'm definitely getting enough protein and enough carbs - whole foods - not refined, it's the junk I "over eat" with. Sooo... I'm just wondering if any of you have ever experienced anything like this and what you did about it. I absolutely love working out, pushing myself etc... But I can't afford to be this tired. I've got 3 small children and one on the way, plus a part time job.

I certainly can (and am trying) to work on my eating and maybe drink more water... any other thoughts?
Thanks! ~ Heidi EDD #4 10/26

First off, welcome!

Now onto the question at hand- I haven't heard of this....seems the norm is to gain energy, not lose it. Are you drinking enough water? Could be a dehydration thing if not. That's the only thing that comes to mind. Maybe someone else will have some other thoughts, and or ideas!

Hey - I have read many times that drinking LOTS of water is crucial to not only weight loss, but energy. The fact that you are drinking for two makes it that much more important. A good rule to live by is to drink at the very least 3 or 4 of those 16.9 oz Aquafina's and I would expect you will find yourself bouncing off of the walls!

Also, if you drink coffee or soda...this will tend to bring your energy levels down (even though there is caffiene)...overall, the caffiene is not good for MoJo Jo Jo. :)

Are you sure it's just while your working out? And not the time of year that it is. I am just curious if you are getting good rest at night. This is peak allergy season and a lot of times we have allergy problems and not realize it, and do not get enough good sleep at night.

Another thought is the not enough water one, this is quite possible. Either that or your iron may be low.

Out of curiousity, WHEN are you working out? Did you change the time of day you work out? Since we know working out can give you energy, let's say you're working out at lunch, so of course you're boucing in the afternoon

you say that you are snacking on junk food, usually that makes me sluggish after eating bad foods. so cutting back on the junk and adding water ought to do it. plus how much sleep are you getting?
oh, and i remember the first few weeks of pregnancy i couldn't keep my eyes open! you could be doing nothing wrong, just the baby kicking your butt!
