My Gym Closed!

Hi ladies!

Sorry to have been away...feel free to rap my knuckles. (LOL) I have to come up with a new workout routine - the gym at my work complex unexpectedly closed its doors a couple of weeks ago! Fortunately all my dues are refunded, but I need to come up with some new ideas. The other gym I would go to is my nearby college alma mater, but it won't be open on evenings or weekends until Labor Day.

I don't like to sit still - usually in the summer I swim laps out or condo pool if it's warm enough, and then go for an evening stroll or bicycle ride. (Until the other week, I was in the habit of 45 minutes at the gym after work.)

Thanks for your suggestions! :)

That's the pits that your gym closed. Do you have room in your place to do some exercise? If you do, you could look at some cardio DVDs. I use the three mile Walk Away the Pounds, and sometimes even the two mile. It doesn't take much space to do those, which was good for a long time apartment dweller. It's not what I always want to do, but at times like this when the rain settles in, it's a pretty good workout.

I do all of my weights stuff at home. I have light free weights, would like to go the next weight up. Maybe DH will get us some so he can use them too. I also use resistance bands. They really have given me a pretty good upper body workout.

I hope you can find something that'll work for you. It's hard to change your routine when you've got one going that works.

I'd love to lean on that other gym for evening and weekend hours! Unfortunately it's in a college dorm and it's unlikely they'll have enough people around during the summer to keep it open - and the collegians who staff it can be notoriously apathetic when it comes to personal assistance. (LOL)

My former gym was good for stairs and nautilus-type machines, and a little bit of shoulder press. (My concentration had been on endurance, abs, general firmness, etc. - I'm not looking to bulk up too much. LOL) It offered a seriously discounted membership rate to the local business employees and also had the huge advantage of being right where I work...tough to beat that kind of convenience. ;)

Pilates sounds like a fun option, but I haven't looked around too seriously yet for local programs.

Maybe a monthly pass at the local public pool. You could swim there during the months that it's not warm enough to swim at your condo. They sometimes even have weight rooms, and hot tubs.

Hey Chris, good to see you again ;-)

Have you checked the newspapers to see if there is anyone selling a Nautilus (sp?) or any other equipment? Though I don't know if space might be a problem for you.

Or checking the neighborhood for other gyms??
