What A Weekend (Slightly Long)

My family got into town on Thursday afternoon. Things just went so fast from that point. That evening, we went out for a very casual dinner, just my fam, before we went shopping for stuff to make our salads for the rehearsal picnic. It was chilly that evening, but the sun came out of the dark clouds.

On Friday, we had lots of errands to run and last minute "what are we doing about..." and "who's going to..." and stuff to discuss. My sister and her DH and my niece and nephew stopped by for a bit, but then went on their way to see my BIL's grandfather in another city sort of nearby.

We went to the park for the rehearsal. We were a bit early so my 16 yo sister and I kicked the soccer ball around a bit, mostly to keep warm. Again it was chilly and cloudy, and this time very windy. Everyone began to arrive, and, by this time DH's son had joined us playing with the soccer ball. DH asked me to come over since the pastors had arrived. After my best friend, maid of honor, and my dear friend and her husband, who were our violinists, arrived, we started the rehearsal. Everyone was pretty cold while we waited for DH to cook the burgers and things after the rehearsal. We have some photos of people sitting in cars to keep warm until the food was served.

After rehearsal, I went to the motel and stayed with my parents and two younger sisters. My fam had stopped and picked my aunt up on the way down siince she didn't think any of my cousins would come. She had an extra bed in her motel room.

The wedding day was chilly, but not quite as chilly as the rehearsal. It was not nearly as windy either. It did drizzle much of the time. Everyone was seated, and dad brought an umbrella to the car I was in to avoid being seen prior to the event. By time we walked up the sidewalk to the pavilion, the music had started and my mom and DH's DD were lighting their sides of the unity candle. (I had just a second to notice how beautiful everything looked, the cake, the serving area, the tables my mom and aunt had decorated - it was all so nice.) Tori, my maid of honor went then, and dad and I followed. Dad whispered to slow down, which I was trying to remember, but I'm not used to walking slowly.

The scripture the pastor read was just perfect. The vows went well. I only thought I would cry once so I looked over DH's shoulder and saw Rach, one of the violinists. She gave me a huge smile. It made me feel more calm. We got the center unity candle to stay lit for a picture while our violinists played a lovely piece, then we exchanged rings. My pastor then said the prayer of blessing and then we kissed, and gave each other a big hug, almost like "we did it." Then we were introduced, and that was it. We walked down the aisle followed by Tori and DH's DS, the best man, then everyone lined up in the center aisle we had made in the pavilion to greet us.

We had about 45 people there. They seemed to have a good time. The food was good and the cake was good. We fed each other cake without getting it all over each other. I tossed the boquet, basically for a photo, but my 16 yo sister caught it, which is kind of funny. She plans to enter college and go into pre-med next year, so I don't think marriage "fits into her picture" right now. I heard her tell someone that she was trying to push the boquet to someone next to her.

The reception didn't last too long due to the weather, but that was OK. People ate and we got to talk to everyone a bit. We then left and went to the Marriott, across the lake from the park. We had a lovely view of the lake from our room. We ordered pizza and watched the Pistons game - just stayed in and, well, enjoyed the evening. One cool thing was there was a bit of a thunderstorm that evening, which I just love.

So that's it. It wasn't the day I had pictured with the rain, but it was wonderful anyway, and we're married. We will be taking our honeymoon trip, slightly delayed so I can be in Tori's wedding on June 9th. We are going to see some friend on the way and just sight see and enjoy a vacation.

Aww......Lorie it sounds like you had the perfect day. The chill and rain aside, you had family and friends all around you, and your new DH by your side. A wedding day is supposed to be just that. Thanks for sharing the details.

Now we'll just await some pics ;-)

Awwww, I'm so glad it went well. I can't wait to see pictures either!!!! Did you toss the garter belt to the single guys??? At mine (and many others I know) the guys refuse to catch it, lol. I think its a lot of pressure for them, haha.

Congratulations!

First, I think it's neat that you and your MOH are getting married at near the same time. lol. That's so cool. Thanks for the details, it sounds like it DID go fast, but also, I'm glad to hear it wasn't quite as cold and windy and the previous day. Sounds wonderful. I'd love to see some pics if you don't mind. If you don't like to post anything, I can understand. :)

BTW, I loved how you two ordered pizza and watched the Pistons game. Now THAT is marriage. lol.

Now THAT is marriage. lol.

Ya, that's so us. We had a beautiful room with a great view, but the rain got worse after the wedding and reception had ended and it started to storm, which I like, so we just decided to stay in. It worked out well.

I hope to post pictures soon - was hoping to today, but DH is busy with his job today. He has some digital ones on a flash drive that he will come by and download on the good computer here when he can. I've got the ones in mind I want to post.

Can't wait to see them.

Your evening reminded me of NYE with K one year. We were sitting on this plush bed of a nice hotel....eating chips and salsa, watching Pimp My Ride. When we realized, whoa, NY just passed. Oops. Happy New Year! lol. Munch munch, go back to pimp my ride, gotta see how the car turned out. lol.

To me, that's jut hilarious, but fun.
