Hi to everyone. This seems like just the place for me. I have spent a lifetime as a yo-yo dieter in a 40 pound weight range and have finally realized it is about health, not weight!!!!!! A light bulb moment for me.

Part of this realization has come in the past several months dealing with IBS attacks. I have had this condition since my pregnancy back in '99 and have been able to control it for the most part with medication UNTIL.....................

This past year I was assigned to a new positon at work in order to bring up our school Science test scores from the 49%passing rate the previous year ( by the way, I am the only science teacher at 5th grade, so all of the stress fell to me). Then, in the early fall, I began getting headaches which lead to MRI, Neurologists etc. Turns out it was tension headaches and slight astigmatism. ( I type this now in my $1500 glasses LOL). Then, in December we found our dream house and because of an incompetent mortgage broker did not close on the house until Feb. By this time, the April Science test is looming and the stress began to take its toll and the IBS attacks began.

I spent most of April and May eating only french bread, oatmeal, plain noodles, and graham crackers. Plus, no energy to exercise due to lack of food. Finally, I seem to be stabalizing due to new meds and getting back to walking ( and getting back my test scores, 84% passing !!!) I think my next adventure will be yoga, which will help with the stress. So now I am into eating healthy and exercise to keep myself healthy. Weight losss would just be a bonus.

This seems to be a great place to get support and just gab as well. Hope to get to know everyone!!!

Hey Christy- welcome again!! (I think I welcomed you earlier in our roll call)

You're absolutely right, this place is FULL of support, and wonderful women :-)

Sounds like you've had a rough time of it in the past year, glad to hear things are running a little more smoothly for you. I too am a teacher so can empathize with the stresses that are involved!! (So glad school's almost done for this year, great job on getting those test scores up!!)

Have you tried Yoga before? There are some great video's/dvd's out there for starters if not. Or will you be going to a Yoga class? Whatever route, good luck with it, and yes, it really does help unwind your body!

Looking forward to seeing you around~

Hi Christy -- I'm new here too, I just found this board several days ago. I can certainly see why you'd be stressed! My mom was a teacher and she used to get really upset when all that testing was going on.

I'm trying to focus on health instead of weight loss too (although I would like to lose some weight eventually!). I've been doing yoga for about two months now and I just love it. It's great all-over exercise, for body, mind and soul.

Glad you're here!
