When will the pounds go?

Hello everyone!
I have recently decided to rejoin the Air National Guard after 6 years as a civilian. My problem? I need to loose 35 pounds before they can sign me up. I just began working out on June 7th. Six mornings a week I get up at 5:00 a.m. and walk the mile to our local high school. If it is a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, I go to swim laps for 20 minutes and if it is a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, I run 1 lap around the 1/4 mile track (I'm trying to work up to a mile a day). Then, I walk the mile home.
I've been watching what I eat and all that, but I don't know when I should start seeing some pounds dissappear. So far, nothing has budged. Could someone tell me how long it may take to see an encouraging pound or two remove itself? I'm afraid I will get frustrated and give up if I don't see a difference soon. Please help me!
Karen

I hear you ... I've been working on exercising and watching my food intake for about two months and nothing has budged! But I am not exercising as much as you are ... if you continue your current workouts, I have no doubt you are going to see results soon. It's just that it's only been a few days since you started. I think as we get older we don't see the immediate results we saw in our 20s! I know I don't!
Hang in there!
Hey Karen, and welcome to the 30's board!
Congratulations on making that choice to go back to the National Guard, and for consciously changing your daily routine!!
I know it can be frustrating not to see an immediate change, but I wonder if you feel any different? More energy, a 'healthy glow' on your skin? There are so many other positive changes to take place with exercise. I think with your current routine you should probably see some changes (whether on the scale, or with your clothes) in about 3-4weeks!
Keep it up, and don't lose faith :-)

Hey Karen,
Congratulations on getting started! It is really hard. I started getting on track myself last week--June 8. It sounds like you've been weighing yourself a lot. Everything I've read says that you should only weigh yourself once a week. I think that is partly b/c if you weigh yourself more often, you get discouraged. I've also read that a healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week. It hasn't quite been a week yet for you or me, so even though it is frustrating, we have to keep going. It's possible that I'll lose nothing this week, and next week I'll have suddenly lost 2 lbs. Could be the same for you.
I guess the trick is to find additional ways to motivate yourself, not just the numbers (though they are important). You've got such a good plan--alternating your exercise and gradually building up to things. It goes w/o saying, but you're drinking a lot of water, right? It really does help. I wish I could tell you more. Just be sure to give yourself a lot of credit for the work you are doing, b/c it is really hard work!
