There have been a few ladies here who have done these in the past, and are doing them in the future. I found this article on getting started; finding one in or around your area, different types, etc....

Get Healthy Helping Others
A beginner's guide to charity walks and runs
by Carol Candeloro
We've all heard the old adage "Those who help others help themselves." Well, you can help yourself get motivated, and help others while you're at it, by participating in a charity walk or run. It's not only a way to raise money for an organization that fights deadly disease, but it also gives you a great fitness goal.
Signing up for a charity walk or run has never been easier, thanks to the thousands of organizations with detailed Websites containing all of the information you need to get involved ‑- including registration forms, fundraising tips, personal Web pages to receive and monitor donations, and helpful tips on pre-event training.
Charity runs and walks are held in most major communities throughout the year, making it convenient to participate and physically prepare well in advance of any event. So now that you've got the basics, check out this list of some national charity events so you can get a running start on fundraising and fitness.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure
Founded on a promise made by one sister to another who died after a three-year battle with breast cancer, the Race for the Cure is a 5K (about 3-mile) run/walk that takes place in over 100 cities throughout the U.S. and Europe. Registration fees range from $15 to $35, with 75 percent of the net proceeds spent in the community it was raised in and the remaining 25 percent going to cancer research.
American Heart Association Heart Walk
One million people will take part in over 600 Heart Walk events across the country this year to help put a stop to the number one killer in America: heart disease. The walks range from 1.6 to 6 miles, with those in wheelchairs, kids in strollers and dogs welcome to join in at various locations. There's no registration fee, but walkers must raise a minimum of $100 to receive a Heart Walk T-shirt, and those who raise upwards of $10,000 can collect prizes, including televisions, camcorders and trips.
AIDS Walk
With more than 43,000 new cases of AIDS diagnosed last year, the fight against the disease continues in earnest as the AIDS Walk kicks off its 20th year. Covering an average of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), this race has no registration fee, and you can sign up as an individual, as a team with your friends or by joining an existing group. The AIDS Walk Website offers clever tips for fundraising, including changing your voicemail to inform family and friends of your involvement and of their much-needed donations, and collecting the change you would normally use to buy snacks and sweets and donating it to AIDS research instead.
Revlon Run/Walk for Women
This 5K run/walk takes place in New York City on May 6 and in Los Angeles on May 13 with nearly 100,000 men, women and children joining together to raise money for women's cancers. A $25 registration fee is required for either event ($35 if you register one week prior) and includes a T-shirt and gift bag. Organizers ask that you set a fundraising goal, as those who meet their preset donation target are awarded prizes such as gym bags, clothing and international round-trip airline tickets.
2006 MS Walk
Thousands of people in over 700 cities take part in the MS Walk each year to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. (MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system of 400,000 people in the United States.) There's no registration fee for the walk, but a few chapters require a minimum pledge before you can participate. The lengths of the various walks in the program range between 3 and 12 miles, but if you're up for a real test, you can try the MS Challenge Walk, which covers 50 miles over three days.

Thanks for the great post!!
